Job Description

Theyre responsible for smoothing and finishing concrete surfaces to complete construction projects. They may work on concrete floors, sidewalks, roads or curbs. Concrete finishers make sure the concrete used on job sites is the desired pith, required form and depth. They may work alongside and collaborate with other skilled tradespeople to complete their work, including engineers, electricians, plumbers, truck drivers and operators.Job duties of a concrete finisherConcrete finishers are responsible for a wide range of duties that may change depending on the type of project they are working on and the team members they are working with. Here are some of the key job duties of a concrete finisher:Placing forms that hold concrete to ensure the required depth and pitch is achievedMonitoring the effect heat, wind and cold have on curing concrete to ensure high-quality resultsRemoving edges on expansion joints and sidesInstalling anchor bolts, steel plates and other fixtures in freshly poured concretePolishing surfaces using smoothing materials, abrasive tools and surfacing machinesAligning forms for sidewalks, curbs and guttersWaterproofing, damp-proofing and restoring concrete surfacesCompacting materials using power vibrators to create leveled basesFinishing concrete surfaces with rough or smooth patterns depending on the customers preferenceSignaling truck drivers and moving chutes to facilitate pouring concrete onto formsCasting and spreading concrete to patch voidsApplying hardening and sealing compounds to cure the surface of concreteSupervising and training workers to help them use special tools to spread concrete
