The Architecture and Management unit is responsible for research and standardization activities related to 5G and 6G cellular network architecture, security and its AI/ML-empowered zero-touch automation.What you will learn and contribute to Nokia Standards is seeking Senior RAN Architecture Research Engineer to work in our Architecture and Management Group. You will work in one of our teams defining the global evolution of RAN architecture from 5G to 6G as well as supporting 3GPP standardization work. A candidate should have expert knowledge on cellular mobile communication networks, strong research skills with outstanding analytical/theoretical capabilities and simulation experience. Successful candidates are expected to have research mindset, solve complex problems, analyze and prove the benefits of the concepts and contribute to the standardization of these concepts in standardization bodies, mainly 3GPP and ORAN. As part of our team, you will:
• Pro-actively identify emerging topics in RAN research and standardization and drive internal discussions on technical concepts.
• Work in area of RAN2 and/or RAN3 standardization research including concept research work and writing 3GPP contributions.
• Protect the generated intellectual property by patents, contribute to the implementation of patents in standards, review of inventions from others.
• Support RAN system simulations by designing and developing simulation tools (C++/MATLAB/Python) and models.
• Supervise PhD and master students, and corresponding research projects
Your skills and experience
• MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications engineering, Physics, or a related discipline;
• >3 years of professional experience in 3GPP RAN Architecture, Interfaces and Protocols; leading roles in R&D or standardization of radio access networks. PhD is a plus.
• Senior level expertise in wireless communication systems in areas of 3GPP RAN network architecture and protocols including standardization thereof.
• Experience in standardization work and patent creation, track record of relevant patents and publication.
• Knowledge of simulation as a methodology and most common simulation tools and platforms (e.g. C++/MATLAB/Python).
• Ability to work autonomously on complex research issues.
• Very strong analytical skills and eager to find innovative/disruptive solutions to problems
