Sr Eng, Industrial Designer

Job Description

• This section focuses on the main purpose of the job in one to four sentences.
• Apply Industrial Engineering design principles to design form factors, look and feel for end user facing hardware of medical products while working with cross-functional program teams. With minimal guidance, prepare design drawings, details, sketches, virtual models and final deliverable 3D files in line with the hardware design strategy for innovating new and improving existing medical products with product stakeholders (customers, marketing, and engineering).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• This section contains a list of five to eight primary responsibilities of this role that account for 5% or more of the work. The incumbent will perform other duties assigned.
• With minimal supervision, lead product development projects for ID driven by user insights with expert understanding of core ID skills from hand sketching, digital visualization, CAD, materials and manufacturing knowledge, and impressive design sensibility for medical devices and regulated healthcare products.
• Execute the program team s vision through incredible 2D skills like hand sketching, Illustrator and Photoshop rendering.
• Actively participate on device program teams to ensure sound hardware and industrial design principles are considered and implemented.
• Create and communicate project plans, tasks and deliverables and manage time to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information at key milestones through clear, concise oral and written communications.
• In partnership with other R&D teams, develop product prototypes to explore and validate user facing hardware design.
• Participate in efforts to develop process and procedures that align to Baxter initiatives and relevant design guidelines and standards.
• Understanding of principles in ergonomics, anthropometrics and data collection / analysis methodologies.
• Capable of handling moderately complex engineering assignments.
• Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on a variety of technical inputs.
• Knowledge of applicable requirements /standards.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills in written and verbal form. Ability to decompose complex problems into actionable task list.

Qualifications:

• Understanding of Quality System Regulations (QSR). Understanding of design requirements for development, validation, and verification of medical products.
• Experience with operating in a regulated environment (e.g., FDA) with comprehension of implications for medical device and healthcare applications.
• Knowledge of and familiarity with applicable FDA guidance s and international standards (e.g. IEC62366)
• Demonstrated understanding of user centered design, design for manufacturing (DFM), design for reliability (DFR) verbally and in written form.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for projects requiring industrial design input.
• Proficient with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
• Proficient in CAD creation of designs in Rhino/Creo/SolidWorks and to produce high fidelity renderings in Key Shot.

Experience and/or Background

• Bachelors in Design/Industrial Design/Product Design or other relevant discipline, Masters preferred, 5 8 years of experience.
• Experience with the medical devices or medical software
• Visual component: evaluate, consolidate and standardize the visual components within our product while constantly developing new elements to create a wonderful experience for our users
• Design patterns and guidelines: develop our design patterns, guidelines and libraries to maintain a consistent style and experience for our users
• Create and develop holistic visual concepts, layouts and UI elements while ensuring a consistent visual presentation across the product-line and with overall company standards
• Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite and a variety of design tools for designing, prototyping, and wireframing (including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, InVision, and others)
