Job Description

The Education, Reference and Continuity team at Elsevier, works with external authors, editors and contributors to create content to support both digital and print products. Our mission is to create content that improves outcomes in science and healthcare and sustains well-being today and tomorrow.The Analytics and Reporting group within the ERC creates and manages reporting solutions to aid acquisitions editors in their goal of signing high-quality, market specific content; as well supporting the management team in insightful decision making allowing the business to meet its objectives.Job SummaryAs a Data and Reporting Analyst, reporting to the Manager, Analytics and Reporting, you will create advanced-level insight and recommendations through reporting solutions and analytics projects. The focus of these reports are to support ERC staff in the acquisition and evaluation of content as well as insights to aid the management of the business. You will have a solid understanding of best practices in the fields of data and analytics and be able to execute on projects and initiatives without supervision from others. You will lead analytics efforts with high complexity, mostly independently.Key ResponsibilitiesReporting and Analytics

• Identifies the data sources necessary to deliver a reporting or analytic project most effectively
• Accesses data from multiple sources, including database solutions
• Blends data from multiple sources to aid report development
• Uses software solutions e.g. Knime / Snowflake / SQL to develop data sources to optimise reports
• Considers multiple solutions to provide optimised results and can analyse the relative merits of these
• Uses Tableau to effectively visualise data and create innovative, intuitive dashboard style reports
• Effectively communicates the purpose and function of reports to stakeholders
• Works on multiple projects simultaneously against timelines
• Learns about new technologies to support new reporting and analytics development efforts

Connecting Data

• Works with various teams across Elsevier e.g. Operations Reporting / Finance / Product, to join data sources to aid business decisions
• Aids with the development and maintenance of mappings for product ownership and individual title management across the ERC
• Works with developers and stakeholders to influence development of metadata software replacement to ensure ongoing reporting capabilities

Connect to the business

• Works with stakeholders across different levels of seniority within the ERC to understand their business needs
• Makes suggestions for metrics and visuals to drive insights and recommendations
• Works with stakeholders to develop clear objectives and success criteria for new reporting solutions
• Able to convert business needs to functional requirements
• Works will colleagues across the ERC to aid their data literacy skills
• Connects the business to the wider Health Markets group

An ideal candidate has:

• A minimum of a BSc or BA degree. (BS in Mathematics, Analytics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Engineering or Statistics is ideal.)
• Experience with SQL, Snowflake or Knime
• Significant experience of data visualization tools such as Tableau
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to interact appropriately with both business and technical stakeholders at all levels
• An analytical, inquisitive mind with a strong interest in working with data
• Is a self-starter and is continuously looking for self-improvement opportunities
