Job Description

Position Overview:The Manager- Accounting and Finance will be based at India Country Office and will report to the Finance Director. Finance Officer and Senior Accounting Associates will report to the Manager- Accounting and Finance. S/he will be responsible for the core accounting functions. Additionally, M-FA will be required to make significant contributions in the areas of budgeting process, developing local fund-raising processes and capacity building of CO and SO finance team.Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Finance Director to formulate, implement and track financial budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with programmatic strategies. Also lead the periodic budget revisions.
  • Coordinate with Program and Operations team to flag concern areas and enable close to 100% budget spending.
  • Lead the Payroll Process.
  • Lead the cash forecasting Process.
  • Develop SOPs and revise internal policies, as applicable, in the areas of Core Accounting and Local Fund Management.
  • Guide Finance Officer in developing robust systems to ensure efficient management of local funds.
  • Guide the Finance Officer in formulation of budget proposals and preparation of Donor reports in timely manner.
  • Manage various audits- Statutory Audit, Donor Audits, FCRA Audit and any other special audit, if any.
  • Periodic review of financial and other systems both at Country & Field Offices.
  • Mentor and develop the capacities of accounting team through delegation and review of work.
  • Provide constant feedback and develop empowered accounting team. Build flexibility by introducing rotation of work.
  • Keep abreast of latest applicable legislations and manage all such legal compliances and regulations- FCRA, Income Tax, PF, Gratuity and other labour laws.
  • Work with Tax consultant to manage Income Tax assessments.
  • Assist Finance Director in performing Trust Board responsibilities.
  • Facilitate the due diligence carried out by various donors.
  • Focus on timelines and quality of deliverables.
  • Manage investments, balancing risk, return and liquidity.
  • Ensure that the INCO has adequate internal financial controls and establish additional controls as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Qualified Postgraduate (Finance/ Commerce) degree, with at least 10 years of relevant, professional experience
  • 5 years experience in accounting and finance in an international NGO environment
  • In depth knowledge of financial and accounting systems, financial reporting as per local legal compliances
  • Exhaustive knowledge of legal landscape applicable to NGOs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications specially Excel.
  • Fluency in Written and spoken English
  • Training/capacity building and management skills and experience
  • Results oriented; commitment to quality and efficiency
  • Willing and able to work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
  • Flexible attitude towards changing priorities and ability to multi-task
  • Strong initiative and leadership skills
  • Team player
