Job Description

Ciena makes your social / entertainment / business existence REAL.SUMMARY: We are seeking a product manager to provide expertise and direction instrumental to the definition, development, marketing, and sales of Ciena s routing and switching product offerings. This position would report into the Ciena Product Line Management (PLM) organization as part of the Global Products & Services Division. The position will define tactical objectives and roadmap to expand Ciena s market leadership in programmable IP networking products. A strong understanding of market requirements will be leveraged to convey customer and overall market priorities to corresponding product teams.The position will define key software feature functionality for products from across Ciena s portfolio, focusing areas including Layer 2 Ethernet connectivity, security, network management interfacing, SDN programmability and performance monitoring.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide market and technical expertise in the areas of Network Management with a strong emphasis on end-to-end solutions.
  • Define and develop Carrier Grade Layer 2 Ethernet requirements for applications such as Mobile Backhaul, Enterprise Edge, and Residential Services.
  • Drive strategy and execution of security features that protect network elements and network connectivity.
  • Participate in RFP response and executive briefings.
  • Evangelize Routing and Switching programmability to sales teams and customers.
  • Assist sales in product presentations, capturing customers, assessing products to meet customer needs and in preparing detailed product specifications and proposals.
  • Work as a subject matter expert providing consultation to internal Ciena organizations (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Global Tech Support, Network Services, etc.)
  • ~10-15% travel required including international
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in engineering, computer science or equivalent with 4 proven experience in product management, technical pre-sales, advanced technical support, or similar role
  • Solid understanding of network management and SDN protocols including:
  • NETCONF/YANG, RESTCONF, gNMI, SNMP
  • Solid understanding of node level and network level security including protocols.
  • Solid understanding of QoS including marking, queueing, and scheduling.
  • Solid understanding of Layer 2 MEF services and components including OAM.
  • Network troubleshooting experience with network fault, configuration, accounting, performance, security of L2/L3 network elements.
  • Experience in AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting) is helpful
  • Routing Certification and/or solid understanding of IP routing is helpful
  • Experience working with tools such as Netcool, SevOne, CA, EMC, BMC etc. is helpful
  • The candidate should possess a balance of very strong technical skills, market knowledge, and eye for business.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal and written) is required.
