Exhibition TOUR GUIDEJob Title: Tour GuideReports to: Guide CoordinatorBased at: Dialogue in the Dark Exhibition Inorbit Mall - Hyderabad1.1. SUMMARY OF THE JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Tour Guide is a visually impaired person (legally blind) and works intotal darkness. The Tour Guide welcomes the visitors and guides themthrough the Dialogue in the Dark exhibition. The Tour Guide handles all oftheir needs while in the exhibition, assuring that visitors are comfortable,safe and secure, while providing them with an imaginative, educational andentertaining experience.Verbal communication and interaction are an essential part of the visit. Thecommitment of the Tour Guide and his/her willingness to communicate andbuild empathy with visitors, focuses more on the ability to compensate thelack of sight than on the disability itself, by motivating the visitors to exploremore in order to discover their own limits, and is central to the scenariossuccess.1.2 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESAccompany diverse groups through the exhibition and respect theindividual character and behavior of every visitor. Each group mightinclude a wide variety of ages, communication skills, and educationallevels as well as a variety of physical capabilities.Secure comfort and safety of the visitors, by keeping them in a groupduring the whole tour, reacting adequately in emergency situations andsupporting physically those who need it.Help the visitors to overcome their fear of the dark, by establishing trust,supporting psychologically those who need it and entertaining them withhumour and creative suggestions.Raise visitorsawareness about their other senses.Serve as an ambassador for the visually impaired community, openlyshare experiences and present positively the way of perceiving the worldvia the other senses while compensating for the lack of sight, as well asexisting in that way and enjoying life.Inform the visitors about the concept, background and opportunities ofthe Dialogue in the Dark exhibition.Be able to sustain pleasant and polite two-way communication withvisitors throughout each tour.Walk and stand for at least one and a half hour periods while conductingtours.Remain kind, respectful and positive while answering difficult questions,and even in the event of a stressful situation.Understand and maintain the tour schedule.Work as part of a team with good communication skills with teammates,respect and strong commitment to the job to promote professionalism,creativity and enthusiasm.Assist in other areas as needed, when not actively engaged in a tourBe appropriately dressed and maintain a well groomed appearance at alltimes.Find way easily and quickly in all areas within the work environment:exhibition spaces, break room and offices, washrooms.1.3 WORK ENVIRONMENTThe capacity to spend time in total darkness has to be checked especiallyfor those individuals, who have a low level of sight left. All employees aresubjected to a high level of noise and physical strain throughout theirworking day.Employees may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays asneeded to provide shift coverage for exhibition tours.1.1.4 PERSONAL PROFILEPersonalityEmpathic communicator, able to see things from the other persons point ofview. Well presented and good-mannered. Sufficiently mobile, with a highlevel of acceptance of his/her blindness. Keen for a new experience andopen to learning. Reliable, punctual, able to get on with others and be ateam player.Required Candidate profileQualifications and requirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplisheach key responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications and requirementslisted hereafter are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilityrequired.Soft skills - excellent verbal communication skills, good grammar andenunciationGood mobility skills and capacity to get to the work place unaided, takingadvantage where possible of public transport (Tour guides should becompetent with their canes, to represent an independent and confidentperson)Education or experience in presentations, leadership, guiding largegroups is helpfulKnowledge of a foreign language (English as first choice) is appreciatedPsychological skills, such as the knowledge of group dynamics, are aplusActing skills, together with a clear and pleasant voice, are a plus,
