Principal Design ManagerDo you put human needs and motivations at the center of your design thinking Do you see technology as a tool for amplifying and enhancing the things that make us human--giving us superpowers Do you have a passion for user experience and building software scenarios for real people through innovation, creativity, attention to detail and simplicity The Creative Team for Microsoft Edge is a small studio of multidisciplinary designers working on ideas and experiences that reimagine the web browser for the human world.We are looking for a Principal Design Manager, who knows the difference between Good and Great designs; someone who can work with Engineering and Product Management disciplines while driving design directions from concept to final implementation. A talented designer who is rock solid in design principles, with problem solving skills and potential, big picture focus and leadership qualities. We re defining various new categories of products, so imaginative design collaboration from the beginning is essential. You should have a proven record of strong team leadership, innovative thinking, a history of using design to drive new ideas and the ability to help your team to make the right design decisions. You should revel in powering the growth and success of your team and have a passion for developing the careers of the people on your team.You will work in a design team and work closely with a team of software engineers, product managers, and program managers in a highly collaborative environment. You are experienced in the tradeoffs and collaboration needed to design and ship high-quality products used by a wide audience. You are eager to work in a fast-paced, data-informed environment, and can generate compelling ideas rapidly and iterate based on rapidly-changing information. • Lead a group of designers in delivering world-class interaction designs from initial concept through to shipping.
• Partner closely with stakeholders to set the design direction for feature areas in Edge.
• Hire, mentor and grow designers, and foster a creative, inclusive work environment.
• Help solve complex design problems in simple and intuitive ways, blending together brand personality, visual, motion and sound to create delightful experiences.
• Work closely and constructively with program management leadership and engineering leadership to ensure overall business strategy is on track and smooth delivery of designs.
• Advocate for design in context of business and user goals.

Responsibilities:

, Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience shipping products in a product/software environment.
• Design or HCI degree, or comparable industry experience.
• Passion for design and strong command of visual design capabilities, including layout and composition, information hierarchy, typography and color.
• Handled complex design problems and have a proven ability to create sophisticated and elegant solutions.
• Experience creatively solving hard problems; history of impacting shipping products with your work.
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills to tell design stories to fellow designers, developers, and program management.
• Self-motivated and driven to get the details right.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
• Portfolio showcasing your proficiency in translating research insights into great product experiences, reflecting the synthesis of good visual and interaction design principles.
