Background Information: Pearson R&P Rights Lifecycle Maintenance manages a number of activities: Effective management of intellectual property, Assessment of existing Pearson products determining status of the intellectual property and to identify whether the content can be reused through new Pearson platforms in order to exploit new market opportunities, or whether additional clearances are required, Vendor management, Asset reuse and management, litigation support, rights training and advisory functions. Purpose: Responsible for systematic quality, detailed Assessment Services of products and act as an Advisor to the Business. Ensure that the rights assessment of all third party content (images, text, video, audio etc.) used in Reuse products (Distribution Requests, Adaptations, Translations, Custom, various platforms) requested by the business is done in a timely order, enabling them to proceed effectively and copyright compliant. Have the capacity of Risk Identification, Assessment, Mitigation and Prevention. Obtain all available legacy reports, logs, archive in order to achieve the most accurate product assessment. To request and review all relevant contracts (ranging from author contracts to third party rights agreements) that document the intellectual property of content to establish whether such items can be reused by Pearson or whether rights restrictions apply. Create and maintain multiple regional trackers that presents the intellectual property status of the content and which highlights where items may require remediation so that relevant teams understand whether or not they can use content.Key Accountabilities & Deliverables: Assessment Services Auditor IP Associate, Project Management, Business Advisory Role

  • Daily monitoring, logging, prioritizing assessment requests entering them onto appropriate regional tracker.
  • Databases and Systems training and workflow management.
  • Ensure that all titles and asset information is reviewed thoroughly and in-depth. Establish and update business and, if needed, any remediation prior to them proceeding to their needs.
  • Act as an advisor to business, notifying them with any foreseen litigation challenge and as a content solutions provider.
  • Understand the request and portfolio requirements from the business. Our timely results help choose the correct rights strategies at their initial levels of planning.
  • Ensure that the relationship between business and team is a cooperative and respected.
  • For each product audited, create a comprehensive report at asset level, detailing every item of content used within a product and the rights associated with it.
  • For every item of content checked, build, and maintain a simple archive of associated documents, ensuring that key security principles are maintained and available for reference.
  • Ability to follow through to a great level of detail to ensure that all items of content are audited.
  • Know when to identify and escalate issues.
  • Where any potential risks are highlighted through IP audits, notify, and liaise with the senior management.
  • Working in an international team where there are multiple languages and time zones to balance.
  • Train and guide the business with the Pearson IP Policies updates (NEO site, presentations, scheduled meetings).
  • Where time allows, assist on any rights related initiatives, back list legacy, disposals, acquisitions, etc.
Skills/Core Technical/Functional Competencies:
  • Excellent understanding of all intellectual property rights and copyright.
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Proven experience of having worked in a copyright management function.
  • Understanding of Rights Management Systems
  • Excellent documentation and presentation skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to work to and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and understanding of how information should be presented to get across important issues to different
  • groups of stakeholders and senior management. Including astute documentation and presentation skills.
  • Proactive in seeking information, problem solver challenging and driving efficiency
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills with advanced Excel, Formula applications, Project and PowerPoint capabilities.

Qualifications Post Qualification Experience: 0-2 yearsDegree/ diploma or equivalent work experience:
  • Law Graduate (LLB/BA.LLB/BBA.LLB) and/or PGDIPR or equivalent certification publishing, media, or digital industries.
  • Working knowledge of IPR Laws, Contract Assessment, Deal Negotiations, Risk Management & Advisory
  • The candidate should have an interest in publishing, intellectual property, and content management specialization in IP.
