Job Description

We are looking for someone with a passion for adult learning and experience developing technical training. As a learning content developer, you will work directly with Ciena s software engineers to create engaging learning solutions by identifying source data, researching and gathering available engineering information, and testing for accuracy and validity in the lab.Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for all phases of instructional development as you create learning content for Ciena s networking products and software tools.
General Activities
  • Identify, interview, and build relationships with subject matter experts, technical staff, and management to develop training objectives
  • Design and develop innovative learning solutions that meet audience training needs
  • Prepare storyboards and outlines
  • Create learning content including video tutorials, technical walkthroughs, animations, and classroom training.
  • Obtain and interpret a range of engineering information including technical notes, design specifications, and related documents
  • Analyze new product releases to determine the impact on existing training content and identify new training needs
  • Develop project plans and timelines
Collaboration with stakeholders
  • You will interact with developers and customers to identify and close gaps in documentation.
  • You will participate in our learning community, recognize trends and topics of interest, and create content that meets the needs of our customers.
  • You will collaborate with instructors to design effective classroom activities and exercises.

Requirements
  • Technical degree (BA/BS or greater), or equivalent combination of education and technical training development
  • Minimum 5-8 years work experience in technical training and/or technical content design and development
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and be flexible while meeting tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated skill in creating original technical training and online content
  • Demonstrated expertise with eLearning development tools such as Camtasia, Captivate, Storyline, Articulate Rise and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Demonstrated experience in training development using basic instructional design models such as ADDIE, SAM, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying adult learning methodologies
  • Ability to research, understand, and communicate complex technical topics
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills in working as part of a global team
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with multiple deliverables
Nice to have
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and JSON
  • Experience with Python or other programming languages
  • Experience working with computer and telecommunications network products, terminology, and technology
  • Technical understanding of cloud computing and virtualization platforms (OpenStack or VMWare)
  • Understanding of REST and web applications
