Job Description

The Linux Systems Engineer will be part of our global IT Services team in Pune. The Role Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, as the Linux Systems Engineer you will have a strong background in Linux Systems Management, in both cloud and on-premise environments. Ideally you will also have a strong understanding and knowledge of Solaris and Sparc infrastructure. This is an operational and project-based role; encompassing design, delivery and run of production systems.Working with the Global Unix/Linux Team you will be responsible for providing quality services to external managed service clients as well as internal business units. You may be required to participate in an on-call roster system to support our global offices and clients.This exciting opportunity offers you the chance to work in diverse environments and be responsible for the provision of system support across multiple domains, design/quote/delivery projects as well as consulting and pre-sales opportunities. How you will contribute This is a busy and challenging role, which will see you undertake a range of activities including:

  • Actively involved with the implementation of system and cloud services
  • Responsible for change management activities related to Unix/Linux platforms
  • Co-ordinate and arrange support of newly implemented systems services with the Global Unix/Linux Team
  • Maintain monitoring visibility of the Linux environment and perform post incident reviews for customers and environments with SLA s.
  • Assist all Hansen Technologies with incident management, subject matter expert queries and/or 2nd to 3rd level escalated issues.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with Global IT Unix/Linux Team and IT Vendors
  • Maintain certifications in Linux, or Solaris systems administration, as appropriate.
  • Deliver work that is of a high-quality standard that meets organisational quality assurance requirements
  • Design, Build and deliver with a focus on the delivery and ongoing management of all designated Linux infrastructure requirements
  • Provide Technical Leadership that ensures a strong focus on service continuity, helps us do business and achieves the global IT Strategy.
Travel
  • Occasional travel may be required to other Hansen support centres based primarily in London, Denmark and Norway. The role might also require travel to Australia or the USA.

Your colleagues recognise you as a highly skilled Linux Administrator because you have an excellent working knowledge of:
  • Unix/Linux operating systems (Red Hat, Solaris, Oracle Enterprise)
  • Production 24 x 7 systems, including Oracle RAC environments
  • Knowledge of deployment, patching and configuration utilizing Satellite and/or Puppet
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning
  • Experience running Linux on AWS, VMware platform is highly desirable
  • Shell scripting
  • Implementing and hardening of Unix/Linux systems in relation to Security
  • Networking and communications (Fibre Channel, SCSI, TCP/IP, FTP, SSH)
  • Backup Tools (HP Data Protector, Veeam, CPM)
  • Management Tools (SolarWinds)
  • Disaster Recovery planning and testing
  • SAN storage and fabric management
  • Implementing Oracle databases on Linux environments (desirable)
  • Programming in a Unix environment (C, Java, Perl) (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ITIL principles and experience with tools such as Ivanti, ServiceNow etc
