The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is one of India s leading public interest research institutions, known for its rigorous scientific policy research and advocacy on environmental issues. CSE is looking for a Programme Manager to head its Energy team. CSE started its engagement with energy beginning with sustainable low carbon development in 2010. CSE has established itself as a prominent player domestically, as well as in emerging countries in Asia and Africa, in formulation and advocacy of energy policies. Job ProfileThe candidate will head a team of researchers who lead research and advocacy to push policy and regulatory reform in a broad range of energy sectors including renewable energy, thermal power, transmission and distribution utilities and electricity markets. The candidate will report to Director (Energy) who will give overall research direction to the team. The candidate, assisted by a team, will carry out research through both primary data collection and secondary literature studies. The candidate will be responsible for the team s research output including reports, policy briefs and articles in media. The candidate will lead Energy team s advocacy effort through various channels. He/ she will be responsible for dissemination of the team s research through active engagement with policy makers, think tanks and civil society. The candidate will represent CSE at energy meetings/ conferences and communicate with press, television and electronic media. He/ she will need to follow regulatory and technical developments in India as well as in other countries, critique policy changes for internal discussions and give feedback to relevant stakeholders including the govt. The candidate will assist CSE s efforts to advocate renewable energy and to clean the thermal power sector in emerging countries in Africa and Asia. Necessary Skills: Good understanding of the energy sector, especially policy and regulatory aspects. Strong research and analytical skills ability to quickly absorb and analyse wide- ranging material and produce well- structured reports. Precise, lucid writing; confident, articulate speaker. Vital that the candidate can deliver under pressure meet tight deadlines and is self- motivated. Ability to manage and mentor a team of younger professionals. Good inter personal skills; needs to be good at networking. Total work experience of at least 10- 15 years. Prior research and writing experience is essential. Candidates with both technical and social sciences qualifications can apply. A mix of technical and policy background would be preferred. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience. ,
