Job Description

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.As a member of the technical writing division, you will design, create and deliver whole product documentation sets and/or related courseware. Edit, organize and direct the work activities of other technical writers and staff. Plan the format, arrange the layout of publications and edit work for conformance to publication standards and specifications.Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience., The Oracle FSGBU Insurance Information Development group has an opening for a Sr. Technical Writer based out of Hyderabad, India. We believe that our documentation plays a major role in helping our customers and implementation partners be successful by understanding how to configure and use our products to solve their business needs.To enable us to achieve our goal, we are looking out for someone who has the following skills:

  • Can write/update documentation and online help content for a sub-set of Oracle FSGBU Insurance products
  • Possesses excellent verbal, written, and research skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to grapple with and master difficult source material, and be flexible to manage changing deadlines and priorities
  • Is able to write for a wide variety of audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, understand documentation accessibility requirements (at large), meet set deadlines, exercise good judgment to resolve problems, and create high-quality work
As a technical writer in the Insurance division, you will: - Research and understand the needs for a product and perform documentation design based on your understanding of these and the needs of our customers - Write clearly, concisely, and accurately using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation following the guidelines and standards in the Oracle Style Guide (OSG) - Interpret technical specifications, configuration files, code, and other technical documents as source material and then translate dev speak to user speak- Participate in product design and status meetings (as/if required) - Verify documentation through hands-on testing (as/if required) - Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Qualifications and Experience :Background- Possess college degree in a related field, such as English, Technical Communications, Engineering, or Computer Science. - 4-10 years of technical writing experience.Technical and Tools Knowledge- Proven ability to learn new products and technologies and to grasp highly technical information - Exposure to standard documentation tools, including Adobe FrameMaker (experience with Structured FrameMaker is a plus, though not mandatory) and MadCap Flare. Prior experience in getting accessible user documentation using Flare is highly desirable- Documentation standards and standard delivery mechanisms (e.g., online Help, Web help, PDFs, etc.) - Exposure to software development tools, including source control tools (SVN), and processes, including design, development, and quality assurance a plus - Knowledge and experience in the Insurance sector is preferable, though not mandatory Soft Skills - Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills - Possess good planning and organization skills - Independence and good judgment, positive attitude, and an innovative spirit - Experience working with cross-functional global teams, including developers, and peers in remote locations - Ability to work on multiple deliverables simultaneously and under time constraints - Ability to work in a collaborative group setting
