Software Engineering Manager II, Google Cloud

Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager at Google, you will go beyond just Search and have the technical expertise to provide technical leadership to major projects while managing a team of Engineers. Your responsibilities include optimizing your own code and ensuring that Engineers are able to optimize theirs. You will manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team working in various areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and more.Your role involves managing engineers across multiple teams and locations, overseeing a large product budget, and deploying large-scale projects internationally. You will shape the future of hyperscale computing by inventing and creating world-leading future technology and contributing to Google infrastructure, from software to hardware, including building Vertex AI for Google Cloud.**Key Responsibilities:**- Set and communicate team priorities aligned with the organizations goals- Set clear expectations for individuals based on their level and role- Develop the mid-term technical vision and roadmap for your team(s)- Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the broader area- Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices**Qualifications Required:**- Bachelors degree, or equivalent practical experience- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role- 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role**Preferred Qualifications:**- Masters degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organizationGoogle is an equal opportunity workplace and is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of various factors.
