Job Description

Role Overview:As the Vice President of Software Engineering at Mastercard, you will lead software engineering teams in developing advanced technologies and applications that are revolutionizing payments. You will be responsible for leveraging Agile development principles, advanced design practices, and a focus on security, reliability, and performance to deliver solutions that exceed customer expectations.Key Responsibilities:- Own end-to-end release quality, ensuring customer experience and platform trust are safeguarded across all deployments. Establish rigorous testing standards, release readiness criteria, and go/no-go decision frameworks. Drive risk management and defect containment strategies, and lead quality governance across development, testing, and production operations.- Define and execute the technology modernization roadmap to reduce technical debt and enhance scalability, resilience, and efficiency. Lead transformation initiatives including legacy platform modernization, cloud-native architectures, and microservices systems. Drive continuous improvement in engineering productivity and deployment velocity while ensuring architectural consistency, security, and compliance.- Drive AI adoption across the engineering organization, embedding intelligence into development, testing, operations, and decision-making. Sponsor AI-enabled capabilities such as test automation, predictive analytics, and AI-assisted development tools. Establish responsible AI practices and ensure measurable outcomes are delivered.- Lead, mentor, and inspire senior engineering leaders and managers globally. Build a culture of quality-first engineering, continuous learning, and innovation. Develop succession planning and talent mobility strategies, and foster collaboration across various stakeholders.- Act as a trusted engineering partner to senior executives, providing visibility into risk, quality, delivery, and modernization progress. Manage strategic vendor and partner relationships to ensure delivery excellence and innovation.Qualifications Required:- Hands-on technical and people leader with the ability to manage directly and through others.- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate objectives clearly.- Expertise in distributed system design and implementation, along with knowledge of software development processes and Agile methodologies.- Experience in Test Driven and Domain Driven Development (TDD / DDD) and familiarity with Application Lifecycle Management tools.- Strong decision-making skills, bias for action, and collaborative approach to leadership.- Payments/Card industry knowledge and ability to understand business cases.Note: Omitting the section on Corporate Security Responsibility as it is not directly related to the role description.
