Job Description

Key Responsibilities The candidate will be a member of a team within Data Management Services (DMS) called Distributed Database Operations. The primary role on the team will be as a SQL Server Infrastructure Database Administrator supporting all project requirements. Must have the ability to provide 24x7 rotational on - call duties, after hour change support and support disaster recovery test weekends. The eligible candidate will be required to carry a cell phone, laptop and on occasion will need to do work outside of regular work hours. Essential Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of database concepts and principles. Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server functions and features. Ability to define database architecture that supports business requirements. Understanding of project management principles. Ability to clearly and concisely provide oral and written communication. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle several tasks e ciently. Main Accountabilities Deliver on assigned SQL Server Infrastructure projects with participation throughout the project lifecycle (eg. new software releases, patch upgrades, feature exploitation, security and audit, etc. ) . Database server/ instance installs (stand - alone and clustered) , service - pack upgrades, hot fixes, client tool installs, according to established procedures and controls. Establish and maintain written best practices and operational procedures (build books, checklists etc) and generally provide guidance on SQL Server operation. Ensure the proper setup and validation of backup and restore processes. Support latest SQL Server versions along with 2005, 2008 and 2012 including: Database Engine, Integration Services, Reporting Services and Analysis Services. Proactive monitoring of database environment for stability, performance, availability and recoverability. Support project development following documented standards, policies and procedures (Change Management Process) . Occasional participation in after - hours and weekend incident resolution, support of production implementations, infrastructure activities, and various disaster recovery exercises. Work closely with other team members, technical/ team leads, management, specialized IT areas and application support teams to ensure consistent delivery and quality of database services. Develop T - SQL stored procedures, functions and Powershell scripts to support internal processes and improve system performance. Contribute ideas for best practice improvements, process improvement, and innovative solutions. Organizing and monitoring personal workload and escalating to manager when issues arise. Passion for database administration as a career. Demonstrated ability to apply database concepts to business requirements. T - SQL skills that include a thorough understanding of system tables, stored procedures, functions, triggers, etc. Experience with SQL Server installations and patching. SQL Server tuning skills using Profiler, Index Tuning Wizard, Dynamic Management Views and Functions (DMVs) , and other third - party tools Knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio and Business Intelligence Development Studio . Knowledge of SQL Server database resiliency strategies such as replication, mirroring, log shipping, maintenance plans and DR recovery strategies. Knowledge of Microsoft Powershell for scripting. Experience with Sybase Power Designer Experience with 3rd party support tools (Redgate, Idera, Embacadero) . Some knowledge of data - mapping and logical and physical data modeling. Willingness to share ideas and speak up in large groups. Essential Skills & Competencies Graduate (BE/ B. Tech) in Computer Science or equivalent information technology degree/ Diploma with 5 to 7 yrs of work experience. SQL Server certification or MVP status and experience with various SQL versions on various Windows O/ S s.
