Job Description

The JLO Patent Team is looking for a high performing and motivated individual with patent drafting and prosecution experience. The patent agent position will be based in Bangalore, India and report to the Senior Director of Patents in the US. The position will support onsite innovation efforts and patent efforts for the multiple engineering teams within Juniper. In country counsel and liaison for all of IP Legal with potential support for open source, standards, IP transactions, trademarks, and other IP. The position will require interacting with business leaders, engineers, outside counsel, and the internal patent team. Light travel required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Serve as primary representative and leader for the JLO Patent Team in India and APAC.

Client Support (50%)

  • Proactively engage with engineering and business leads on roadmaps, and revise/implement associated patent portfolio strategy
  • Advise engineers on patent-related issues and develop technical knowledge in areas of responsibility
  • Provide training to internal business and engineering groups on patents and other IP

Portfolio Management (25%)

  • Oversee Patent Review Committees and facilitate invention disclosure review and patent filings s
  • Mine for patentable inventions in key technology areas
  • Collaborate with internal patent team and outside patent counsel on output of patent mining sessions and Patent Review Committee decisions
  • Manage outside patent counsel with filings and prosecution

Patent Projects (25%)

  • Provide support to patent litigation team as needed
  • Conduct non-infringement and freedom to operate analyses
  • Plan and execute award, awareness, and client programs for engineering teams in India
  • Work with the internal patent team to refresh existing patent policies and create new patent policies/processes
  • Provide support for all IP, including IP transactions, open source, standards, trademarks, and other IP, where needed

Desired Qualification/Experience:

  • Qualified Indian Patent Attorney having 7+ years of patent experience, with strong knowledge of US patent law
  • Proven track record in a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel
  • University degree in technical major from a well-respected institution
  • Experience communicating patent issues to engineers and business leaders, and working with a global team
