Job Description

Job Brief:The tasks include reviewing assessments, presentations, spreadsheets, charts, passages, storyboards, and transcripts to ensure proper formatting, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, grammar, usage, and tone. The copy editor (CEs) will need to quickly adapt to guidelines and deliver files. Time is of essence; tasks typically have a short turnaround time. The CE will have to adhere to the schedule.A strong work ethic is an integral part of the job. The CE will be completely accountable for the documents she or he is reviewing. CEs are usually the last line of defense before files go to clients.CEs must be able to spot inconsistencies quickly and must ensure that content adheres to the specified style. CEs may need to check for plagiarism and accuracy of facts.Education and Certification:

  • Any degree (mass communication, journalism, English literature, education, biology, chemistry, or similar)
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, or ISO 9001 and exposure to quality management system (QMS) will be an advantage
  • Any formal training in editing will be a bonus
Total Experience: 5 10 yearsRelevant Experience: 410years (editing, copy editing, or proofreading content across domains; not limited to only academic content) Bonus Experience: Working in content quality teams in e-learning, e-publishing, content, or media domains; working with instructional and/or graphic designers; working with American or European clients and teams; working with bug trackers (to report and track errors)Skill Requirements:
  • Pays major attention to minor details
  • Is proficient in English language (and its nuances)
  • Holds a keen interest in reading and has a high level of comprehension
  • Has general awareness
  • Possesses moderate-level computer skills (especially the MS Office suite)
  • Is familiar with one or more publishing style guides such as Chicago and APA
Language and Grammar:
  • Thorough grasp of the English language with advanced vocabulary and grammar
  • Reading comprehension skills across topics and domains
  • Ability to summarize information without losing the original meaning
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with project managers to provide deliverables, share task status, incorporate feedback, and reach out for clarifications
  • Allocate copy editing tasks to team members and maintain trackers
  • Conduct case studies to provide effort estimates and communicate the need for resources/infrastructure to project managers
  • Conduct spot checks to evaluate quality of work
  • Conduct root cause analyses and suggest remedial actions
  • Provide inputs and assist in appraising the performance of team members
  • Mentor new team members and conduct training sessions
  • Resolve queries, especially those related to language and style
  • Recognize exemplary performance of team members and recommend them for spot awards
  • Facilitate team huddles and team engagement activities
Communication:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and articulate ideas in a manner that is clear and concise
  • Ability to work with various cross-functional teams seamlessly, while keeping in mind corresponding templates and processes
  • Ability to compile information in spreadsheets and presentations
Coordination and Management:
  • Ability to respond appropriately to queries from clients or project managers
  • Ability to address peers concerns and provide solutions that are mutually beneficial to peers and business
  • Ability to anticipate and assess risks, alert stakeholders, and create mitigation plans
