Job Description

Azure Storage is the fundamental core of Azure which today provides around 5 exabytes (5 million terabytes) of raw capacity distributed worldwide across 40 regions, 100+ data centers and approaching 1000 storage clusters. Azure Storage provides the persistent storage layer in the cloud, powering millions of Azure virtual machines, holding millions of hours of video, billions of photos, and petabytes of other data types.We are looking for experienced Software Engineers with a strong and proven record of top-notch design and code development skills. This position will play a key role in defining the technical direction of complex pieces of Azure Storage, while delivering continued improvements as well as pathbreaking features at a high quality. The candidate will work on the latest server technologies and highly distributed systems, with a focus on reliability, scalability, performance, consistency and debuggability.If you are ready to take on the challenge of solving impactful and hard problems, designing and building complex systems and debugging live systems, then this is the position for you. Thought leadership, the ability to communicate up, down and across, and a strong commitment to our customers will be required. Your passion for setting the roadmap of the next generation of distributed storage systems will challenge you on a daily basis, as you build and maintain the largest storage solution Microsoft offers.

  • Provide strong technical leadership, raise the technical bar, maintain data and results-driven culture, nurture a team culture of high collaboration and trust.
  • Drive long-term architecture and detailed design for highly scalable distributed systems with simplicity and maintainability as core tenets.
  • Communicate effectively and partner well with other disciplines of the project team to deliver high quality solutions from ideas to production code.
  • Write exemplary code working with large scale distributed systems with quality, simplicity, and maintainability as core tenets.
  • Mentor and develop engineers across all levels through sharing and learning.
  • Be a role model for open, honest and inclusive approach to problem solving
  • A strong focus on teamwork, quality, and building things for long term success.

  • 8+ years of software development experience in the commercial software industry
  • Bachelor s/Master s Degree or equivalent in Computer science or equivalent industry experience
  • Proficiency in C/C++/object oriented programming
  • Solid design and coding skills with a bias for architecture at scale.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with a can do attitude a self-starter, project finisher and adaptive, collaborative.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work across teams.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms is preferred.
  • Prior experience with system programming, storage protocol development or large scale storage systems would be a big plus.
  • Able to analyze and clearly articulate complex issues and technologies.
