Job Description

ExpediaHotels.com is seeking a Software Dev Engineer to work in a fast-paced, agile environment within the Core Services area. Core Services teams own high performance tier 1 services that provide data to all Hotels.com pages across all platforms. Services owned by Core Service s team serve on an average of tens of thousands of requests/sec with a strong emphasis on performance, automation, monitoring, innovation, DevOps and continuous improvement.You ll be responsible for:

  • Writing high quality code lots of it!
  • Be hands on, designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions that drive Hotels.com shopping experience
  • Research new tools and technologies to drive us forward, mentoring and coaching other developers on best practices as well as influencing other teams within Hotels.com.
  • Working in an agile team and look for ways to continuously improve through asking and providing feedback.
  • You will provide technical guidance to other team members and mentor junior developers.
  • You will act as point of contact for technical issues for specific work streams within a project.
  • You will implement product features working as part of multi-functional team using agile methodologies, work with QA, DB, Operations, Information Security, Release engineers and Product Owners
  • You will drive ongoing improvements in application architecture to help build and design highly scalable enterprise applications
Our general tech stack is Java, Spring, Cassandra, Redis, Scala, Kubernetes, Kafka & AWS and we are constantly looking out for any new technologies that will push us forward. The components owned by these teams are fully integrated with our CI/CD, allowing us to release every day.We don t believe in skill matching against a list of buzzwords However, it wouldnt hurt if you have experience with some of the following (or a passion to learn them):
  • Experienced Java coding skills are what we crave and a passion for quality and reliable code which can serve millions of users and meet the challenges of a truly global website
  • First class communication skills in written and verbal form
  • Experience with large scale distributed systems
  • Love building usable features for the end user, working together with UI Developers and platform teams
  • Confident in discussing, providing, and driving alternatives to solutions you feel will not be suitable and scalable
  • Feel at home writing new and maintaining existing services and applications
  • Like finding the simplest solutions to the most complex problems
  • Ability to work in all phases of the development lifecycle (design, implementation and support)
  • Understand the challenges and standard methodologies of developing truly global websites
  • Keep current with modern and emerging tools and technologies
  • Exposure to cloud-based architectures and knowledge of resiliency patterns such as circuit breakers are desirable
