*As a Design Engineer at Caterpillar, you will have an opportunity to direct and lead the development of new product and complex component and system concepts for release to production in a manner to ensure superior performance, durability, reliability, quality and serviceability to the worldwide marketplace.Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:This position is for a Sr. Associate Engineer / Design Engineer in the Core Genset Components product team. The successful candidate will support global manufacturing of large generator sets. Specific job roles include product structure releasing, maintenance and support. This includes releasing and extending BoMs to facilities. This role also includes managing BoM issue resolution activities to support production BoM accuracies to meet customer delivery dates. The candidate will work across global facilities to drive BoM improvements while working across multiple organizations. The candidate will also assist in evaluation of engineering design deviations and change requests by other departments. The candidate will also support customer related issues ensuring proper information and data are available on demand for customer supported activities. In this role, you will advance your engineering skills, assembly/manufacturing skills, communication skills and networking skills. This specific role includes hands-on factory support for integrated generator controls across all product lines manufactured in the Lafayette facility.A successful candidate will interact with a global team and have strong communication skills both written and spoken with desired skills in basic engineering tools including Pro/E, Teamcenter, EDS, VisMockup and drawing standards; an understanding of electrical systems tools like PSPS, Cat ET, and CANape. SAP business systems would be helpful as wellProvides technical leadership to Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Marketing, Sales, Service and other departments to solve the more difficult problemsWorks closely technicians, plant personnel, and suppliers regarding product design, test and production schedule datesRefines and improves product designs by investigating and developing solutions to product design problemsWorks with customers, dealers, and other departments throughout the resolution processInitiates and develops plans and controls the stages through production releaseProvides leadership to drafting personnel and assembly engineersProvides guidance to Assemblers and Test Engineers during product build-up and testingEnsures proper maintenance of production drawings* Frequently travels to domestic production plants, dealerships and customer job sites to solve design problems and to field test locations to assist with the development of engineering projects, *Required Qualifications:Bachelor s degree in an accredited Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.4 to 7 years of design experienceMust have strong problem solving skills, a good mechanical and/or electrical/electronic aptitude, and good communications skills.Desired Qualifications:Masters degree or PhD in engineering.Prior experience with product releasing to global facilities.Prior genset experienceMust have a good mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving and management techniquesRequires good communication skillsAdvanced computer skillsCaterpillar is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EEO)EEO/AA Employer.
