Associate Manager, Software EngineeringPosting Location : Location BR-RemotePosting date 18 hours ago(11/10/2021 3:40 AM)Job ID 91236 Workday ID R-018308 Category Software Engineering About the job The Red Hat s Community Platform Engineering group builds important community-facing operating systems (OS) that are critical to our portfolio, Fedora and CentOS Stream, and works in the overall CentOS ecosystem. We work together in an open, transparent, DevOps way to provide services for these communities. The Community Platform Engineering team is looking for an Associate Manager to share, along with two existing managers, the nurture and development of this globally distributed team of software engineers and system administrators. In this role, youll lead the team openly and transparently, balancing input from both external and internal stakeholders to produce the best possible results and meet company objectives. You will inspire, guide, and work with community volunteers that you will not manage to grow consensus and support for the teams work. As an Associate Manager, you should have a positive but realistic outlook, be resilient when times are tough, enjoy collaboration, and believe in work and life balance, both for yourself and for others. Successful applicants must reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business. What you will do

  • Colead the Community Platform Engineering team that provides application services, infrastructure, and stewardship for the community, helping to establish overall team objectives and priorities
  • Work closely with other CPE and emerging OS managers to share best practices and distribute them across all team members
  • Identify opportunities for team members to grow and develop their skills and career paths to keep the team fresh and motivated
  • Monitor and report progress on key projects that impact product development
  • Work with stakeholders like the CentOS Board and Fedora Council to prioritize and guide work related to community services and infrastructure
  • Advocate for and align work with common priorities across community and company
  • Link community processes with internal stakeholders and plan in advance to make Red Hat s collaborations with the community successful
  • Collaborate across projects to share infrastructure resources, benefit the community, and maximize impact on Red Hat budget
  • Live up to Red Hats open management practices - conduct regular 1 to 1 meetings with each team member to align priorities, understand and advise on difficulties they experience, coach them for professional and career development, and connect the right people with the right work
  • Routinely handle required administrative tasks like performance and development, PTO and other leave, procurement, training, and associates total rewards package; annually gather budget needs for the team, share and collaborate with other managers to consolidate, and continuously deliver as needed
  • Monitor and communicate internal policy or process changes to team members for best results, compliance, and continuity
What you will bring
  • Experience managing a software engineering or IT team or a desire to move your career in this direction
  • Experience managing complex projects from inception to completion
  • Experience in coaching team members to achieve results, e.g., for career development
  • Ability to manage stress and resolve conflict constructively and with composure
  • Ability to write and speak for multiple audiences, e.g., tailoring communications for executives or volunteers
  • Fluent verbal and written language skills in English
  • Experience in open source or community leadership is a big plus, especially if accompanied by documented open source contributions
  • Experience with agile methodology is a plus
