Cardiovascular surgeons deal with conditions of the chest. Specifically, he or she performs operations for various heart conditions such as atrial fibrillation, endocarditis, leakages of the heart valves and arterial blockages, using surgeries such as bypass operations and fitting stents. A large part of the job involves acting in emergency situations such as where the patient is experiencing heart failure. Cardiovascular surgery is a team effort. Surgeons typically work very closely with cardiologists, pulmonologists and other doctors to deliver long-term care for the patient.
