Job Description

    What you will do
    • Support and facilitate innovative and experimental software engineering work to test new ideas, within bounded cost and time frames
    • Build strong working relationships with key internal and external partners to ensure engineering team members meet expectations and contribute to the achievement of business outcomes
    • Provide leadership, vision, and direction for the software engineering organization that facilitates Red Hat s transition to a data-driven organization
    • Collaborate with the broader engineering community to ensure that their solutions align with target architectures, technology roadmaps, data integration standards, and best practices
    • Lead the engineering organization to successfully deliver modern data and analytical solutions at scale through an Everything-as-a-Service (XaaS) framework
    • Manage resource allocation across teams to maximize business impact of resources and ensure each team has the skills and capabilities needed to achieve its objectives
    • Develop workforce strategy to meet the organization s current and future engineering needs through developing, hiring, and/or sourcing talent
    • Manage engineering talent, playing a key role in performance management and compensation processes, role and competency definition, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
    • Build a culture that supports learning, collaboration, transparency, and inclusiveness
    • Champion industry best practices and modern engineering development methods and tools
    • Lead engineering teams and other stakeholders to set goals for improving code quality, maintainability, security, compliance, and scalability
    • Manage collaboration with production support teams to ensure software performs well in and meets SLAs
    • In collaboration with production support leaders, help to develop pragmatic devops practices and evangelize them to the organization
    What you will bring
    • 10+ years of experience in software engineering in order to drive engineering excellence effectively
    • 5+ years of experience as a people manager, preferably with some management of managers
    • Desire to work in an Open Organization that operates transparently and through the Open Decision Framework
    • Experience working in a product organization with a matrix topology
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to distill information effectively for less-technical audiences both verbally and in writing
    • A proven collaborator and exceptional team player
    • Ability to balance enthusiasm and realism in communicating ideas
    • Proven track record of building high performing teams and developing talent
    • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strategic relationships
    • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
    • Strong talent management skills including talent development, coaching, mentoring, and team motivation
    • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships at all levels of the organization
    • Strong business acumen and ability to understand and drive business objectives
    • Strong organizational skills, including an ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources
    • Understanding of relevant tools and platforms (e.g., data platforms, cloud platforms, web technologies, client-server technologies, continuous integration and deployment, etc.) and an eagerness to learn about new and unfamiliar technologies
    • Adaptability and ability to manage rapid change in business needs, processes, or technologies
    The following are considered a plus:
    • A passion for open source technologies, especially around data solutions
    • Familiarity with design-thinking concepts and implementations
    • Ability to lead geographically distributed and remote teams
    • Experience leading in an Open Organization
