Job Description

The primary role of the zWebsphere systems programming team is the delivery and support of the Mainframe Websphere Application environment, performing the installation, maintenance & support activities required to ensure the high levels of availability demanded by the Banks key applications.The role includes project delivery and live support work, patching, Problem Resolution via ServiceFirst and Disaster Recovery activities. There is a focus on continuous review of processes with intention to automate as much as possible and decrease the amount of manual work required.What will you be doing

  • Problem diagnosis through the use of analytical skills, supporting colleagues to learn new skills in problem diagnosis
  • Expert understanding of z/WebSphere Application Server
  • Able to make and implement changes to the Mainframe Websphere Environment
  • Able to provide 24x7 oncall support
  • Able to resolve 90% of Incidents and problems for the zOS Environment with no backup support
What we re looking for:
  • Expert understanding of z/WebSphere Application Server
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ensuring appropriate key measures and performance indicators are in place to enable progress to be exhibited against performance targets across Global Technology Infrastructure and Services
  • Has a good working knowledge of JCL, TWS, RACF and other z/OS operational tools
  • Experienced in the installation, maintenance and upgrade of Websphere and related products
  • Skilled in Unix System Services on z/OS
  • Deep IT security awareness
  • Awareness of the following: - CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ
  • Good understanding of IT operating systems and hardware
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Several years practical experience working on Mainframe Infrastructure
Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Able to provide 24x7 oncall support
  • A good knowledge of z/WebSphere Application Server monitoring tools
  • Any prior knowledge or experience of z/OS Connect would be a bonus
  • A broad understanding of the business issues facing the Barclays Group as well as having a depth of understanding of a number of business issues and emerging trends in the IT industry
  • CA-APM monitoring knowledge would be a nice to have as well.
