Linux Build and Distribution Engineer - VirtualizationPosting Location : Location ES-RemotePosting date 9 hours ago(9/21/2021 8:42 AM)Job ID 89037 Workday ID R-014999 Job summary The Red Hat Linux Engineering Virtualization team is looking for a Linux Build and Distribution Engineer to join us. In this role, you will work on the team that supports the development, testing, and maintenance of components that make up the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) stack. You will be responsible for the build and release of several virtualization components that are part of CentOS Stream and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), while also creating and improving the testing services for them. You will be part of a larger group that cross-collaborates to implement, maintain and deliver system-level virtualization features in partnership with open source communities. Your contributions will be used to power offerings like Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization , Red Hat Virtualization , Red Hat OpenStack Platform , Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) , and also community-driven distributions like CentOS Stream and Fedora.Red Hat has offices in many cities and we welcome applications from home-based, remote candidates, as long as they reside in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business in Europe or Latin America. Primary job responsibilities

  • Build and release several components in the virtualization stack of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS Stream
  • Integrate patches and contributions into the packages shipped by Red Hat
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated systems which provide build and testing services
  • Cross-collaborate with multiple development and quality engineering (QE) teams
Required skills
  • Solid knowledge of patch management and version control with Git, Mercurial, or equivalent
  • Software development experience or automation development
  • Proficient in developing software in a Linux environment
  • Ability to write software in Python or shell scripts
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English
The following are considered a plus:
  • Experience with software packaging on Linux (RPM or container-based)
  • Experience with build systems on Linux like Makefiles, Meson, Ninja, Autotools, etc.
  • Experience with GitLab or GitHub services, implementing webhooks, continuous integration (CI) jobs, and test runners
  • Experience with open source software development
  • CI experience with tools like Jenkins, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, GitLab CI, or Travis CI
  • Power user-level experience administering an RPM-based Linux distribution like Fedora, CentOS, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
