Job Description

  • This is a software engineer role within the Rates Technology team. This role will be based in Chennai. This global team is responsible for developing and evolving a cross asset real time risk solution: Each developer is involved in the complete project lifecycle from requirements analysis, design and implementation.
Job Background/Context:
  • Rates Technology is focused on delivering IT solutions to the Rates (including Derivatives) and FX Sales & Trading businesses. We are a global team based in Chennai, Pune, Warsaw (Poland) and we also have a small presence in the financial hubs (London, New York and Singapore). We liaise directly with the trading and sales desks to provide solutions to create a competitive advantage for the firm
  • Risk Technology is one of the most exciting and fast-paced departments in Rates Technology. This team develops and maintain a complete suite of Risk technology solutions for the trading business The solutions are built using cutting edge technologies like Samza, Kafka and NoSQL and KDB
  • We are looking to hire an experienced developer/technologist with a broad knowledge of different programming languages, patterns and architecture designs, to take a hands-on role in developing new risk technology. This role will be a unique opportunity to gain experience as a front-office developer in a Tier 1 investment bank
Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of large scale projects through hands-on development and technical partnership
  • Development of concurrent, distributed systems with high reliability
  • Continual improvement of the software development lifecycle and quality of the product
  • Ad-hoc and on-desk support of the production systems
  • Close interaction with Traders and Quants
  • Work in close collaboration with global team like Poland
Key Relationships:
  • Close interaction with Traders and Quants on the Rates desk to understand requirements of the real time risk application
  • Other Capital market Technology teams
  • Support Teams
  • IT infrastructure Teams

, Knowledge/Experience:
  • Equivalent of 7-10 years commercial strong Java development experience
  • Distributed Systems Technologies Messaging, Caching, Database
  • Experience with NoSql db (i.e. mongodb/couchbase) and/or exposure in KDB
  • Broad knowledge of programming languages, patterns, and architectures
  • Experience working in fast paced development environments
  • Good knowledge of Financial products will be beneficial
Skills:
  • Java, OO design
  • Distributed Systems Technologies Messaging, Caching, Database
  • Understanding of computing science fundamentals concurrency, algorithms, operating systems
  • Process and tools to produce well written low defect rate code
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or a similar discipline from a good University
  • Strong candidates with demonstrable experience can be accepted without a degree
Competencies:
  • Strong aptitude for analysis and problem solving; mathematical background is a plus
  • Demonstrable passion for bleeding-edge technologies; technologically curious
  • Pragmatic, results-driven approach to software development
