Description
As a unit within the ITS Security and Risk Management, Compliance & Service Continuity (ITSCB) is responsible for the areas of Compliance, Service Management (Change, Release and Service Asset & Configuration), Service Continuity and information security Policies, Directives, Procedures and Standards.The client migrated its IT Service Management processes from BMC Remedy to ServiceNow February 2019. ServiceNow - a SaaS solution - has been declared as a standard by the client for IT Service Management. Our client is implementing the ServiceNow Discovery tool to strengthen the reliability and accuracy of the CMDB by automatically discovering installed IT assets and populating the CMDB with discoverable key attributes. The client is also implementing ServiceNow Service Mapping tool to improve and reinforce ITS risk assessment and impact analysis capabilities by automatically discovering and mapping dependency relationships between applications and infrastructure components. The client conducted a Proof of Value (POV) of ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping in an environment isolated from their Production instance from April 2019 to June 2020 and are now ready to implement the Discovery and Service Mapping solution into their Production ServiceNow environment.
Responsibilities
1. Perform implementation of ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping in the non-Production and Production instance. This includes: Analyze and take action on the identification and reconciliation rules in the POV environment and establish appropriate rules in the Production environment to eliminate duplicate and redundant CIs in the CMDB. POV environment to be used for testing purposes prior to enabling discovery in the Production environment to avoid any unexpected interruptions to existing CIs Analyze and take action on the existing relationships (manually created or from existing integrations) in the Production environment and identify any impacts with discovery data when discovery is enabled Identifying which existing relationships can be removed and take actions by replacing those generated by automated discovery and service mapping data Analyzing existing discovery schedule, define, finalize and create discovery schedules for optimal discovery activities to avoid conflicts with existing data integrations and backup schedules Analyzing the use of credentials, making and documenting recommendations on credential ordering to ensure their efficient and effective use in discovery activities 2. Perform the configuration of the Production instance to ensure successful Discovery and Service Mapping activities. This includes: Execute the discovery of IT components on the network and complete the service mapping of 25+ time-critical applications Review, modify and develop new and/or existing ServiceNow discovery patterns as needed to ensure critical client services such as authentication, identity management, custom applications and services etc. are identified as part of the service maps for all time critical applications Configure and develop dashboards and reports to surface discovery and service mapping data for various audiences within the client 3. Perform the operational and maintenance and continual improvement of the Discovery and Service Mapping service. This includes: Troubleshoot and resolve discovery and service mapping errors with CI owners and application teams Gather credentials for new technologies and service mapping requirement for new applications onboarded and deployed in the environment Gather discovery and service mapping status for monthly and quarterly status progress reportingLanguages
