Job Responsibilities In this role you will design, implement, test and deploy Viasat s next generation optical network management and control software. We practice agile development methodologies, continuous integration and delivery, automated testing and deployment automation. You will collaborate with a team of software and optical engineers to create large scale distributed software controls for a highly available global ground system network for high capacity satellites. Our group is constantly learning and adopting better development practices open source and proprietary alternatives and make recommendations. Required Skills: - 5 plus years of experience in Python, Java, or Golang development skills and willingness to learn other languages - Love to write code - Interest in learning optical and packet network technology - Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other relevant technical field with equivalent experience - Ability to travel up to 10% Preferred Skills: - Experience with one or more of distributed systems, graph theory, packet networks, optical networks and hardware device controllers - Experience with network management software - Experience with optical transmission or radio transmission equipment - Experience with Yang, OpenConfig, Transport API, or related network device control technologies - Experience with microservices architectures, cloud-based distributed systems and the trade-offs associated with building and operating software that spans multiple regionssites - Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments - Experience treating configuration and infrastructure as code - Experience with fully automated testing - Proficient in documenting software architecture and APIs - Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools such as Jenkins, GoCD or Bamboo - Familiarity with Relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Cassandra or MongoDB Additional requirements BABS or equivalent experience ,
