Software Engineer - RHEL Virtualization, Real-TimePosting Location : Location PT-RemotePosting date 1 day ago(12/7/2021 6:27 AM)Job ID 92580 Category Software Engineering About the job The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer with kernel development experience to join us in Portugal. In this role, you will work as part of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Virtualization team. You ll help this globally distributed team develop and maintain Red Hat KVM, a core technology of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). What you will do

  • Perform latency analysis of KVM virtual machines and containers running real-time workloads
  • Investigate latency violations and kernel issues affecting KVM virtual machines and containers running real-time workloads
  • Backport Linux kernel features and bug fixes from latest Linux kernel into older kernels
What you will bring
  • 2+ years of Linux kernel development experience
  • Experience with the C programming language
  • Familiarity with Linux kernel development tools like Git, make, GNU compiler collection (GCC), etc.
  • Good user space and kernel space debugging skills
  • Good programming skills in Bash or Python
  • Familiar with the Linux kernel community and open source development model
The following are considered a plus:
  • Familiarity with the KVM virtualization software stack - KVM , QEMU , and libvirt
  • Familiar with real-time support in the Linux kernel, e.g., PREEMPT_RT patchset
  • Experience using kernel tracing or eBPF
  • Basic understanding of core Linux kernel subsystems like the scheduler, memory management, and locking
