Job Description

  • Build and onboard compute servers for PayPal Bare Metal Platform and Private Cloud (Hypervisor).
  • Troubleshoot issues related to hardware, networking, provisioning tools that may arise during server onboarding.
  • Work with the private cloud team and solve issues related to hypervisor provisioning.
  • Maintain Linux Servers based on Ubuntu, Oracle Linux & Red Hat operating systems at a scale of 40,000 servers.
  • Work with internal customers for hardware tuning for optimal performance.
  • Make production changes as needed in the operating system by following change management guidelines.
  • Standard system administration duties including OS install, System/Application install and patch management, Linux problem determination and resolution, log analysis, etc.
  • Work with hardware support vendors, for hardware break fix, update firmware and BIOS as recommended by the hardware manufacturers.
  • Create tools for automating routine tasks to reduce manual work.
  • Skills in analyzing complex problems, troubleshooting and resolving them and ability to create and consistently maintain, reliable systems documentation.
Qualifications & Skill Set Required:
  • 5+ years experience managing Linux systems at an enterprise level.
  • Experience in Puppet configuration management systems & Ansible playbooks required.
  • A strong understanding of core infrastructure services & basic networking concepts like Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc. required
  • Strong programming skills with Python, Bash or Perl required.
  • Experience in OS installation kickstart process like PXE boot, TFTP or similar.
  • Possess the ability to troubleshoot server hardware across several manufacturers and platforms (including, but no limited to Supermicro, Dell, HP, Lenovo).
  • Strong knowledge on Multiple Linux Flavors like Ubuntu, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Red Hat.
  • Experience managing a cloud environment required, open stack a plus.
  • Strong Analytical & logical Skills on with large scale of Systems.
  • Ability to communicate well, both verbal and written.
  • Bachelor s Degree, or an equivalent combination of formal education, experience preferred.
  • Must have a strong technical background and understand system architecture and design, operating systems, network infrastructure, software installation on test platforms, database, and operating systems.
