a Truck Driver involves transporting retail goods, raw materials, products and other items to various destinations. They are responsible for delivering items from one location to the next while dealing with road and weather conditions. Truck drivers find work in various industries, regardless of how small or large the vehicles they are assigned to are.Education/Experience Requirements According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, successful candidates must be at least 24 years old, pass physical examinations, possess 20/40 vision (with or without glasses or lenses), have good hearing and normal blood pressure. Large companies may require drivers to be at least 25 years old, have a high school diploma or truck driving certification from technical schools and possess several years of experience in trucking. Of course, a valid, state-issued commercial drivers license is the most important requirement in this field.Skills Ability to exert maximum force to pull and carry objects; excellent listening skills, ability to follow directions easily; ability to respond quickly using his/her finger, hand or foot; and ability to see far distances.ResponsibilitiesTransport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance Plan routes and meet delivery schedules Document and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts Input macros into our automated system for each stage of the loading and unloading process Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions Collect and verify delivery instructions Report defects, accidents or violations
