Rigging and moving objects around a warehouse or port location is labor-intensive work. Riggers are needed to secure and monitor goods and parts that need to move from one place to another. Constant inspection is just one of the daily duties a rigger performs; they also ensure safe, clean pathways and consult with clients.The physical demands of rigging require someone in this job should be able to push, pull, lift and carry at least 60 pounds. A rigger also needs to stand for long periods and maintain sharp mental focus.In a rigger job description, education and experience should be addressed. For entry-level work, a high school diploma and a few years of experience is usually enough. There should also be some mention of current industry standards.Job ResponsibilitiesTeam up with clients and company vendors daily to ensure load amounts are correct for production. Oversee the rigging and movement of objects into hard-to-access areas, such as passageways and engine rooms, taking into account nearby structures, obstacles, pathways and work surfaces. Draft weekly rigging plots that anticipate potential problems. Review these plots with the regional manager to ensure quality work and to minimize setbacks. Work daily to provide hoisting engineers, crane operators and all other necessary personnel with guidance by utilizing various means of communication and technology, such as hand signals and radios. Store, handle, contain and properly dispose of hazardous liquids and materials as needed according to the latest regulations to ensure proper safety and security. Inspect all work on a continuous basis to ensure proper safety and company standards. Work with the proper personnel to resolve any problems and meet deadlines.
