Job Description

    The Applied Research & Clinical (AR&C) team within West is responsible for driving the future of the company by identifying and developing innovative products designed to improve patient lives. This objective will be accomplished through a mix of internal organic research and external inorganic collaboration. The inorganic effort will span early stage academic research to more established technologies in the private sector. The inorganic effort will seed the organic efforts. The scope encompasses technology fields that are adjacent to and transformational to Wests core products.The role will work within the Diagnostic Research & Detection Technology team to identify and evaluate technologies and concepts in a broadly defined BioSensor space. The teams output will feed the development of new products and serve new markets. The timeline for realization of the products is within a 5 year time horizon. Internal to West this team will collaborate with teams focused on drug delivery and novel therapies. External to West the team will interface with researchers from academic institutions translating potential value-adding technologies, through feasibility and into reality. Projects will focus on technology validation and integration. This will require the planning and performing of experiments, designing test equipment and prototypes, and integrating different principles of optical, mechanical and electronic engineering.Amongst the many research avenues of interest to West is the explorationof advanced biometricsensor technologies,and their potential integration intonext generationdrug delivery devices. Suitablecandidates will be expected to bring a depth ofexpertise and knowledge of current developments in bothresearch and industry across the sensors space. This position is located in Radnor, PA.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Contribute to complex research projects across several technologies and a variety of project formats, from short-term student internships, through to feasibility projects and long-term collaborations.
    • Design experimental plans and project proposals to evaluate different technologies and test hypotheses.
    • Provide detailed requirements for prototypes and test rigs to validate technologies and work with other team members and/or directing third party vendors to get these built as required.
    • Generate defined project plans and specify design requirements needed to establish key performance criteria to meet project goals of demonstrating feasibility of a new technology.
    • Establish a Knowledge Base by actively seeking out state of the art technologies, tracking publications in relevant fields, identifying and highlighting prolific academic researchers and keeping organization informed of research and industry developments.
