Industrial Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a talented Industrial Designer with proficiency in mechanical product design, including but not limited to furniture and electronics. This role requires someone who can bridge the gap between creative design and practical production, crafting designs that are not only visually appealing but also manufacturable and functional. The ideal candidate will have 3 years of experience in industrial product design, an understanding of mechanical production processes, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines. Additionally, the ability to tell compelling stories through design is a must.Key Responsibilities: Develop innovative and functional product concepts for various industries, focusing on furniture and electronics. Translate product concepts into detailed mechanical designs, ensuring both aesthetic and functional requirements are met. Work closely with engineers, manufacturers, and other team members to ensure designs are feasible and can be successfully brought to life. Define and optimize procedures for translating creative concepts into actionable product designs, considering both design and production constraints. Create prototypes and work hands-on in rapid prototyping processes to test and iterate on designs. Collaborate with teams to refine products and ensure designs are on schedule and meet client specifications. Provide design direction, including material selection and manufacturing processes (with a particular focus on plastics). Ensure products are designed for manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and quality. Create 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and renderings to communicate design intent. Lead product design reviews and refine concepts based on feedback from clients, engineers, and stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of design trends, materials, and production technologies to ensure innovative solutions.Qualifications: Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial product design, with a focus on mechanical design for furniture and electronics. Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, etc.) and rendering software. Solid understanding of mechanical production processes, including injection molding, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication. Hands-on experience with plastics, including material selection, processing, and production techniques. Knowledge of rapid prototyping methods (e.g., 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting) and how to use them effectively in product development. Strong understanding of ergonomics and user-centered design principles. Ability to work in fast-paced environments and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality. Excellent communication skills with the ability to tell a compelling story through design. Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating functional, beautiful, and innovative products. Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team and contribute to a positive, creative work environment. A degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.Preferred Skills: Experience with injection-molded plastic design. Familiarity with sustainability practices in design and manufacturing. Experience in designing for mass production and understanding of cost constraints.
