Job Description

Objectives:

  • To build media relationships, to find opportunities to promote the animal rights message through different news media, and to generate media coverage
  • To enlist the support of celebrities, including those in sport, fashion, music, Bollywood, and South Indian cinema
  • To use creativity in associating PETA with high-profile events
Term of Employment: Full-timeReports to:Associate Director of Celebrity and Public RelationsPrimary Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop ideas and strategies for PETA s celebrity and media work
  • Enlist celebrity and fashion industry support for the organisation and initiate media projects to promote those partnerships
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with entertainment and media professionals (e.g. film and television executives, celebrity management agencies, publicity firms, journalists, photographers, stylists)
  • Research celebrity-related news and create and distribute notes to relevant staff members
  • Initiate and develop ideas for associations between PETA and events in the film, sports, fashion, television, and other entertainment industries
  • Maintain strong professional relationships with journalists and PETA s celebrity supporters
  • Develop new pitch ideas and use judgement and discretion to generate and make recommendations for ways to increase media coverage of PETA s work
  • Organise celebrity and media events, such as ad launches
  • Attend media- and celebrity-related networking events
  • Handle mailings to the media on specific issues and campaigns
  • Prepare and manage news releases as needed, including by preparing media target lists in advance
  • Work with volunteers or professional services to get documents translated into various local languages to deadline
  • Pitch PETA campaigns and events to the media and make follow-up calls
  • Coordinate special projects involving celebrities, including letters in support of campaigns, photo shoots, audio and video projects, and more
  • Develop target lists for issue and campaign coverage
  • Respond to media queries and prepare media statements as needed
  • Serve as a media spokesperson on animal rights issues as required
  • Maintain the contacts database, clippings files, and other records in an organised fashion, including by working with the department s assistant or other teammates
  • Track and analyse the results of each media pitch and adjust efforts accordingly
  • Prepare the media agenda and maintain the calendar as needed, and participate in department brainstorming meetings
  • Participate in other brainstorming meetings, as needed
  • Manage a calendar of special dates related to fashion events, tours, and media and celebrity projects
  • Work with relevant interns and volunteers
  • Update the celebrity database in a timely, organised, and detailed manner
  • Update celebrities, fashion designers, and others on positive media coverage
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly inventory for media and celebrity project needs
  • Liaise with various staff members from PETA India and its international affiliates regarding the preparation of news releases, the production of print advertisements and video public service announcements, and other services
  • Handle the morning meeting as needed
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
  • Degree in a related field
  • Minimum of two years experience in celebrity and media relations or a related field essential
  • Professional experience of enlisting the support of high-profile individuals preferred
  • Fluent in English and Hindi
  • Knowledge of other local Indian languages a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of the entertainment industry
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills and excellent telephone manner
  • Good writing skills, including the demonstrated ability to compose and edit letters
  • Proven ability to develop and execute creative ideas
  • Demonstrated capacity to be a team player
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to take the initiative and follow through
  • A proactive approach to work
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work both independently and as part of a team
