Job Description

Job Purpose /Role overview: The Research Specialist reports to the Executive Director, will lead participatory action research projects of NEG- FIRE to enhance knowledge by - capturing, analysing and pre- empting change on issues of primary education of children from the marginalised communities. She/He will lead Learning Assessment processes on Language and Math subjects in Government primary schools, in NEG- FIRE s intervention states. She/He will bring out evidence- based research documents on the issues of primary education for wider dissemination and policy dialogues.Key Responsibilities:Plan and execute all research projects, starting from scoping to produce research reports/documents. Develop evidence-based research reports that highlight NEG- FIREs program intervention trends and best practices from the field. Bring out analytical reports on the impact of our program on primary education, for internal and external stakeholders. Lead Learning Assessment processes (baseline and end- line) of children in class 1, 2 3 on Language and Math subjects in NEG- FIRE s intervention schools in 7 states. Develop insightful assessment reports and organizational reports to support NEG- FIRE program team and NGO partners for decision- making. Develop 6- monthly reports on the compelling deliverables that will add value to NEG- FIRE s program interventions. Accountability for optimal utilisation of the budget set aside for Research and Learning Assessment activities. Extensively travel in NEG- FIRE s intervention states (even the remotest villages), for all assessment and research activities. Qualifications and Experience:M.Phil/PhD in Social Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology, or any other related field At least 6 years of hands- on experience in evidence- based action research, working in an NGO Experience in managing and commissioning of research projects/initiatives Skills and knowledge:Proficient in social research techniques including observational data collection in the field, in- person interviews, FGDs, literature reviews, etc. Understanding of legal and ethical issues and principles relating to participatory action research Must have excellent analytical skills and documentation of research analysis Knowledge of the social reality (with special reference to education), of the tribal and dalit communities Understanding of innovative pedagogies that enhances learning outcomes among children of marginalized communities Knowledge of government policies in primary education including thorough understanding of RTE and NCF.
