Backend engineers are essential to all of our products and you will be making some of the most significant decisions for the company. You will work with other engineers to build robust features that span various parts of our full-stack deep learning platform. Our tech stack is a modern container-based microservice architecture. Technologies we use include Docker, Node, PostgreSQL, Redis, Cassandra and the usual Unix/Linux tools and workflows. We strive to build reliable, fault tolerant systems that can operate at scale with excellent reliability. We believe that code clarity is paramount to modern engineering teams. We are looking for people with a strong background or interest in building successful products or systems. You should be comfortable dealing with a lot of moving pieces and be excited about collaborating with others, both learning and teaching as we grow.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement or improve features in a variety of backend systems including our REST APIs, microservices, data ingestion and processing systems, and distributed task/job processing systemsWrite and maintain scalable, performant code that can be shared across platformsMeaningfully contribute to the product and core backend systems by suggesting and executing improvementsImprove engineering standards, tooling, and processesPractice test-driven developmentDebug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stackRequirementsYou have a Computer Science degree, or equivalent experienceYou have a few years of experience building web applicationsYou have experience or a strong interest in writing applications in Node.jsYou have experience implementing highly-available distributed systems/microservicesYou have experience building scalable backend APIsYou have experience working with relational databases, Postgres preferredUnderstanding monitoring and alerting platforms is a plusYou strongly believe in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practicesYou have attention to detail and a passion for correctnessYou are comfortable learning new technologies and systems.You have strong interpersonal and communication skills with a bias towards action,
