Director, Software Development EngineerExpedia Groups Flights product is one of the first touch points we have with travelers in our efforts to help them with their trip across all Expedia Groups Platforms. Building the right shopping experience is foundational to driving a meaningful customer acquisition and engagement platform and is also a core driver of growth of other businesses within the Expedia portfolio. Expedias Flights business is directly responsible for nearly 40% of visitors to our leisure sites. Product and tech teams influence setting and executing upon the overall vision and strategy for growth for the Flights business across retail, marketing, supply and customer service.Flights Experience Engineering team is responsible to build and continuously evolve the shopping and booking experience for Flights product across Web, Native devices and other newer platforms (Example: Virtual Agents) our users interact. The mission is to deliver compelling new customer-centric experiences and features through our technology that enable the growth of the business. Engineering team will work closely with Product, Strategy, UX teams to design features which shape the future of Flights shopping and servicing user experience; Team also works closely with other Technology and Platform teams to set direction for our next generation user experiences, as we continue to deliver our best Flights content to our customers instantly.What you will do:Lead multiple software engineering teams to drive the design and execution of the Flights experience across all brands of Expedia Group. You will attract, retain and groom software engineers who can work across technology stack.As a member of Flights Experience leadership team, help build and drive Flights technology teams vision and missions.Lead and continuously build strong geographic distributed engineering teams, to conceive and develop new product concepts, establish development landmarks, and improve cross-departmental processes.Work in closer partnership with other teams in Technology, as well as Data Science, UX, Analytics, Product, Engineering, Strategy and Supply.Hold managers and employees accountable for conducting process improvement initiatives.Utilize in-depth knowledge of customers business challenges to shape thinking around the development of technology and implementation of solutions, leading to the creation of customized, cutting-edge solutions.Demonstrate the risks and benefits associated with the teams work. Advocate for the groups work but incorporate comments about changes without causing undue stress to the engineers on the team.Lead multiple concurrent, sophisticated, and/or unique projects and initiatives.Collaborate with executive technologists across EG to create and promote a technology north star.Make decisions on product technology direction based on deep subject matter knowledge.Ensure optimal Full Time Employee to contingent worker ratios and optimal location strategy are maintained across several teams and overall organization.Who you are:Bachelors in Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experienceSoftware development leadership with experience in consumer technology and/or eCommerce business.Experiences of leading multiple levels of people managers and executing planning/allocation for a team size of 30+.Experiences of driving a multi-organization, multi-dependency, multi-functional programs and multi-year technological roadmaps.Strong technical acumen to run several technical domains and choices and then implementation involving several technologies.Able to present new technology choice to senior technology and company leadership.Experiences in multiple domains and familiar with large scale cloud based global web and mobile applications and end-to-end full-stack technologies.Mentored managers and established mentorship programs for use in teams along with mentoring leaders.Have delivered solutions to business problems spanning multiple technical teams.Experiences working with product teams to define and deliver business critical products.About Expedia GroupExpedia Group (NASDAQ: EXPE) powers travel for everyone, everywhere through our global platform.
