Job Description

We re looking for motivated and talented individuals with extensive experience implementing carrier-grade data communications services. You will take an experienced and influential role contributing to Layer2/Layer3 data-path & Control plane architecture, infrastructure and features, delivering innovative solutions to meet demanding performance, scalability and feature requirements for carrier grade Ethernet services.What will you do at Ciena

  • Develop Dataplane & Broadcom centric features and capabilities in areas of Port, VLAN (Q-in-Q), MAC, L2/L3 forwarding, Traffic Management - Ingress/Egress QoS / HQOS, ACL, MEF services, RFC 2544, L2CFT, mirroring etc.
  • Develop advanced routing, service features and capabilities in a switching/routing system involving advanced routing: OSPF, IS-IS, BGP-PIC, Segment Routing, EVPN, Ethernet services and network virtualization.
  • Contribute to design and development of Layer 2 control protocol features and capabilities. L2 control protocols include 802.1ab LLDP, LACP, 802.1ag CFM, Y.1731, G.8032 ERPS etc.
  • Author and contribute in software design, development, validation, and documentation to deliver high quality, functionally excellent products.
  • Contribute to integration with enabling technologies including third party software, existing platform and hardware capabilities.Required Skills:
  • Deep exposure to IP packet forwarding and L2/L3 switching i.e. OSPF, IS-IS, LDP, MPLS, BFD and EVPN.
  • Deep understanding of BCM L2/L3 packet processing pipeline, traffic management & forwarding engine, with strong experience on Broadcom SDK for XGS/DNX family based devices.
  • Excellent understanding of Ethernet, VLAN and L2 switching is required.
  • Exposure to L2 control protocols (e.g. LLDP, LACP, CFM, Y.1731, G.8032 ERPS etc.).
  • Strong C programming skills with strong debugging and trouble shooting skills over Linux platform.
  • Strong experience in Port/VLAN Management, MAC learning, 802.1Q, 802.1ad, 802.1p, MEF services, Ethernet QoS such as metering, coloring, CoS mapping, scheduling, shaping, congestion avoidance, MEF 10.1/10.2, performance monitoring meter, traffic scheduler etc.
  • Exposure to end-to-end feature development including CLI, SNMP/Netconf, inter module/thread communication, hardware abstraction layer & BCM SDK.
  • Knowledge of IP networking stack in Linux & IP routing.
  • Carrier class product design and delivery experience with Access & Aggregation Switches/Routers designed for Service Provider deployments.
  • Exposure to traffic generators such as Ixia or Spirent.
  • Demonstrable self-initiative and can do attitude to find and implement the best solutions for customers.Effectively able to work independently with little hands-on supervision delivering to aggressive timelines.Education and Experience:
  • Master s or Bachelor s degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively able to collaborate with multiple teams across geographically diverse areas.
  • 6+ years of experience in extensive design and development of L2/L3 features.
