Job Description

What will you do at Ciena

  • Lead complex projects from initiation to deployment at multiple sites worldwide.
  • Manage existing project teams staffed by professionals within RSP and other Ciena organizations.
  • Responsible for keeping track of all software and hardware development and testing deliverables for all assigned software and hardware releases.
  • Respond to and manage any critical customer situations that arise as a representative of Ciena and Advocate proposals and plans to customers on behalf of Ciena Engineering.
  • Oversees multiple releases in parallel. Decisions typically impact multiple functional areas and multiple departments.
  • Create project plan in conjunction with development and test managers and track it from inception till delivery.
  • Provide status updates at project team meetings and highlight dependencies and issues
  • Resolve any conflicts as appropriate with PLC PM, PLM, PLA, HW team, Customer facing teams and Design managers
  • Leadership and coordination - Schedule and manage meetings with and between customers, Engineering team(s), account teams and other stakeholders to drive plan and issue resolution.
  • Build relationships with other product teams and be the point of contact for PLC deliverables as well as communication within Business Decision Point meetings
  • Interprets, executes and recommends modifications to policies/procedures/processes for area of responsibility
  • Designs and develops policies/procedures for area of responsibility and anticipates their impact
  • Identifies resource needs and develops supporting justifications for them
  • Bridge communication gaps between the RSP organization (Hardware/Software Engineering, Development, Testing, etc.) and the Global Field Organization (Sales, Systems Engineering, Customer Service, etc.) regarding the status of various Engineering projects and deliverables
  • Actively listens to ensure understanding and acceptance of values, vision, and direction
  • Identifies resource needs and develops supporting justifications for them
  • Put together program status updates from Gurgaon managers and represent them in North American program meetings
  • Share major updates from NA program meetings with Gurgaon managers
  • Track critical HW equipment orders for Gurgaon teams
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and metrics e.g. smoke/regression tests, static code analysis/clean-up, backlog reduction etc.
  • Responsible for overall success of functional area
  • Provide support for 3rd Party engagements.
  • Drive TL9000 related engagements
Required Skills:
  • Robust knowledge of project and program management
  • Ability to anticipate issues and work with their team to overcome barriers
  • Experience applying influence, consultative and negotiation skills in a matrixed leadership
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, methodical and able to work at a detailed level in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to navigate through a complex organization
  • Awareness of Software and Hardware development processes
  • Ability to create and manage complex presentations to support collaborative communication
  • Team player and effective communicator across all levels
  • Proficient with various software applications including Microsoft Word/Project/Powerpoint/Excel, JIRA, Confluence and utilities like FTP, TFTP, SFTP
  • Exposure to Packet technology domain is a bonus.
Education and Experience:
  • Master s or Bachelor s in computer science or related discipline.
  • PMI Certification and exposure to agile SW development processes is preferred.
  • 12 years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively able to collaborate with multiple teams across geographically diverse area.
  • Proven knowledge and abilities in the principles of change management and process improvement.
