Ciena makes your social / entertainment / business existence REAL.What will you do at Ciena The Sr. Manager of Logic design leads a multi-disciplinary team of individual contributors to support systems hardware development programs. The role is responsible for leading a team of mechanical, thermal, power, signal integrity, PCB, CAD, Component, Agency/Regional Compliance/Homologation, document control engineers, and hardware lab management. Logic design team supports one or more systems hardware design teams, outside vendors and services, and SCO (Supply Chain Operations) to develop families of new generation systems platforms for telco, MSO, and Enterprise customers spanning desktop, pizzabox, and outdoor systems.Responsibilities:

  • Lead the multi-functional team of individual contributors to support systems hardware design activity and product release, based on program priorities, which tend to change from time to time
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other teams within the hardware design organization and outside teams, such as software development, QA, PLM (Product Line Management), and Supply Chain Operations (SCO)
  • Participate in formal and informal cross functional meetings to stay in sync with other teams activity and needs, report status of hardware design activity, schedules, risks and dependencies
  • Track design activities and ensure product release tasks are being performed on time to meet committed product release schedule and/or flag risks and issues to management to trigger a recovery plan
  • Compose and track project budgets, spend and build plans of power supplies, thermal management, and packaging subsystems including shipping cartons, agency certifications, and regional homologations
  • Collaborate with SCO teams, as well as with external suppliers for building engineering prototypes, design for manufacturability, and transition to volume production environment
  • Collaborate with Services teams on design for installability and servicability
  • Proactively manage project risk through the development and execution of a risk management plan to ensure issues/risks are assessed and mitigated
  • Manage, track, and report project status (schedule, content, quality, product cost, and project cost). Proactively manage performance to project contract parameters, escalating to management when parameters are at risk of being exceeded
  • Document and communicate project status, obstacles and resolutions to management
  • Manage the internal R&D prototype requirements for Engineering Services subsystems for HW, SW, and QA, as well as, pre-GA ramp requirements and ensure approvals are in place for any Pre-GA marketing, PLM, and external customer shipments
  • Support hardware sustaining for requalification/recertification as required for component EOL, supply chain component shortages and alternate sources, regulatory changes, and production yield issues as required to support on-going production of systems
  • Lead, guide, mentor, train and develop team members
  • Participate in, or lead, process improvement initiatives as assigned/

Experience:
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 10 years of Related experience
  • Experience in leading and managing a team of individuals, preferably in telecom and MSO networking or similar hardware design environments
