Job Description

Must possess extensive production SQL Server design, support, and administration experience in a large enterprise and apply those skills with a proven ability to prioritize work across several complex tasks simultaneously.Implements DBA best practices and optimizations across a complex continually evolving Azure/SQL Server environment. Understand and support complex backend integrations across multiple business technology platforms; leading ad-hoc cross functional efforts to troubleshoot and resolve production issues along with new features under development. Support the SQL development of custom applications within SDLC, ITIL, Change Control procedures in Development, Validation, Production, DMZ, and DR environments.Responsible to maintain compliance with SOX controls on applications, data, and SQL Servers configuration. Writing technical specifications and documentation. Extensive custom application development support and collaboration with multiple DevOps software development groups. Passionate advocacy for SQL Server and Azure technologies, motivated and driven to research, enhance, optimize Azure and SQL Server implementations.Demonstrate a strong work ethic and the ability to work flexible, long, sometimes odd hours in support of development, validation, and production initiatives across a globally distributed workforce. Demonstrate strong documentation, communication skills and effectively work with various IT groups across several different time zones.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Understand complex SQL Server designs to share ownership and optimize a mix of on-prem physical and Azure IaaS SQL Server environments
• Manage physical and Azure Iaas SQL Infrastructure and optimization
• Develop and help drive forward Azure SQL IaaS to Azure SQL PaaS
• Maintain SOX compliance and GCC controls within SQL environments
• Support several highly active custom application and software development groups in a controlled Dev/Test/Prod/DMZ/DR
• Interact with internal and external customers to establish database requirements, designing and implementing complex resolutions
• Good understanding of Azure cloud services like VNET, NSGs, Azure Automation, runbook, ARM Template etc.
• Analyze, predict, and resolve database, system, storage and application issues, working with all levels of Infrastructure and Application teams.
• Drive azure automation strategy and lead automation projects end to end
• Maintain and improve DR strategies and DBA Admin code
• Support extensive SSIS/SSAS/SSRS impl mentations
• Lead Application SQL Support and OS/SQL upgrades and migrations
• Monitor SQL job failures, debugging, root cause analysis, resolution, documentation and escalation of priority issues
• Optimize and tune T-SQL application query performance
• Configure, support, optimize, and evolve SQL Server configurations
• Optimization of existing and new complex TSQL code
• Continual study of SQL Server/Azure trends emerging technologies
• Good understanding of Azure cloud platform
• Working knowledge of powershell, python, json, Azure Devops, functions etc.
• Hands-on Exposure on Azure cloud automation techniques and strong understanding of infrastructure as a code.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage, maintain, and optimize ~100 sql instances across multi-tiered SDLC environment
• Provide 24/7 support to a production environment, and critical development operations
• Support active globally distributed DevOps development and deployment of custom applications
• Provide primary production on-call support during overnight North America hours
• Flexible work schedule to overlap for collaboration with colleagues in North America
• Ability to travel to North America for training and development with IT colleagues
• Optimize T-SQL, enhance application query performance and debug job/integration issues
• Independently drive forward SQL Server DBA functions to continually improve Ciena SQL
• Support Azure IaaS and drive forward upgrades from IaaS>PaaS (Azure SQL database, Azure SQL DataWarehouse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, BigData technologies)
• Configure, support, and optimize SQL Server configuration, providing full stack support of SQL Database platforms while deeply collaborating with local and off-shore Software Developers
• Work closely with all levels of IT; sharing the vision, priorities, and projects of application and infrastructure teams providing exceptional service and value.
