Since 1992, Ciena has been driven by a relentless pursuit of network innovation. We believe in a network that grows smarter, more agile, and more responsive every day. This means that when you digitally interact in your world - picking up the phone, streaming video, texting a friend or loved one your interactions are being enabled by Ciena technologies. Ciena makes your social / entertainment / business existence REAL.SYSTEM ARCHITECTThe System Architect provides technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of individual contributors to support systems hardware platform development programs. Platform products are utilized by telco carriers, MSOs, and enterprise managed service providers to implement a variety of access and aggregation solutions for mobile, business, residential, and infrastructure networks in desktop, unconditioned room/cabinet, conditioned room/cabinet, and outdoor applications. The role is responsible overall system-level design of new hardware platform products, spanning selection of embedded processors with associated BMC, BIOS/UEFI, DRAM and SSD subsystems, switching/routing merchant silicon, programmable logic for hardware acceleration of functions not supported by merchant silicon and/or not feasible or cost-effective to implement purely in software, as well as, optional subsystems for 1588/syncE packet timing, TDM over packet, fiber and wireless WAN interfaces, fiber, copper, and wireless LAN interfaces, local and wireless craft interfaces, and local and GNSS timing interfaces, redundant bulk power regulation, local point-of-use power regulation, passive and active heating and cooling solutions, fixed or modular hot-swap subsystems. Platforms may range from desktop, cost-focussed, low-power fanless clamshell design, to rack-mount pizzabox designs for unconditioned or conditioned environments, to outdoor ruggedized units for pole, strand, or wall-mount applications. Systems products will require certification to mandatory safety and emissions, ESD, and surge agency certifications, as well as, optional NEBS, ETSI, GR Outdoor Equipment, and other industry or regional homologation certifications. The System Architect works in conjunction with software development design teams, embedded firmware and Linux driver/BSP design teams, hardware design teams, logic design teams, mechanical, thermal, power, PCB, and signal integrity design teams, and DVT (Design Verification Testing) and ESS (Environmental Stress Screening) teams to architect new platform designs to the PLM (Product Line Management) and PLA (Product Line Architects) requirements, as well as, SCO (Supply Chain Operations) engineering for design for manufacturability considerations, and Services engineering for design for installability and serviceability considerations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
