We arelooking for an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive Software Engineer who will design and develop software tools and frameworks, and benchmark the core features/functionalities of the web/caching/streaming distributed servers that form the Akamai Cloud.Partner with the bestYou will be part of the team responsible for design, development and optimization of features/functionalities in the software that runs Akamais world-wide network, one of the largest distributed systems in the world.Our software is a combination of many different technologies. It provides a scalable, fault tolerant solution to web sites for handling their trafficAs a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for:
• Designing and developing software that powers some of the biggest online events like IPL; given the scale of our platform, completeness of code is expected from all of us
• Improving the efficiency of our products by coming up with creative solutions; this directly impacts Akamais bottom-line.
• Adopting to latest technology and standards to keep our software up to date; this keeps us ahead of the curve.
• Taking ownership of assigned modules by becoming the Subject Matter Expert. Akamai favors quality over quantity
• Helping your colleagues to solve their problems; we foster a collaborative work culture
• Troubleshooting and debuging problems on the Akamai platform whenever needed; it is our platform, and hence it is our responsibility to keep it running
Do what you loveTo be successful in this role you will:
• Have 2 years of relevant industry experience
• Have good Programming skills in C and/or C++.
• Have understanding of Systems Programming (preferably on GNU/Linux) including concepts like multi-threading, memory management, IPC, I/O and other interactions with the kernel
• Have hands-on scripting experience with at least one of Python/Perl/JavaScript/Ruby/Shell
• Able to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form
• Have an understanding of compiler concepts along with compilation techniques and optimization
