AVP, API Software Development Engineering Lead

Job Description

As an Assistant Vice President, API Software Development Engineering Lead at Synchrony, you will play a crucial role in building and evolving high-scale API platforms that facilitate billions of transactions. Your responsibilities will include leading a team of engineers, coaching and empowering them to deliver APIs efficiently, and ensuring high engineering quality through rigorous code reviews and architecture reviews. Additionally, you will actively mentor engineers, participate in Agile scrums, provide on-call support, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Your technical expertise in Java, Spring projects, microservices development, Agile methodologies, and continuous integration environments will be essential for success in this role.**Key Responsibilities:**- Work in flexible shift timings and collaborate with a cross-shore development team- Lead and empower a team of engineers to deliver APIs- Review and approve code modules using a formal approval process- Collaborate to deliver high-quality APIs with sound design principles- Participate in Agile scrums and sprints, including technical story writing and planning- Provide on-call support and coach senior/junior engineers- Analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root causes, and implement fixes- Collaborate with third-party vendors for software development and integration- Lead by example in upholding Synchrony values**Qualifications Required:**- Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Technology- 3 years of experience in API development and at least 1 year of experience in leading a team- Strong technical expertise in Java, Spring projects, microservices development, Agile methodologies, and continuous integration environments- Familiarity with tools like JIRA, Jenkins, Sonar, PMD, Splunk, and New Relic- Knowledge of Caching Services such as Redis/Gemfire and Cloud Platforms like Pivotal Cloud Foundry and AWS- Experience in designing applications using SOLID principles, Java, and microservice design patterns- Strong communication skills and the ability to work seamlessly in a cross-functional team environment**Additional Company Details:**Synchrony is a premier consumer financial services company known for its digitally enabled product suites and inclusive work culture.
