Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose: As an Assistant Vice Credit Policy and Strategy Governance, you will be responsible for leading the efforts to develop policies, procedures, charters, and other supporting governance documentation such as process maps and risk control self-assessments for the Credit and Underwriting organization. This will be accomplished by executing existing governance practices established by Synchrony Financial, along with identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement and efficiencies. You will be responsible for coordinating annual policy gap assessments and compiling results for policies owned, reporting those results up to the Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer, sharing those results with critical stakeholders and driving closure for gaps identifiedEssential Responsibilities:

  • Create, write and maintain policies, procedures, charters, and other supporting governance documentation such as process maps and risk control self-assessments
  • Facilitate approval of policies and charters through the various governing bodies such as Fraud Strategy Sub-committee, Credit Strategy Sub-committee, Collection Strategy Sub-Committee, Credit Sub-committee, Investment Review Sub-committees (Retail Card, Payment Solutions, CareCredit, and Community Reinvestment Act), Policy Review Group, and Management Committee
  • Establish a policy governance structure and process that support the entire Credit and Underwriting organization through interaction with the VP, Credit and Underwriting Policy Governance.
  • Ensure Credit and Underwriting procedures align with overarching policies and further support other critical governance documentation such as job aides, process maps and risk control self-assessments
  • Coordinate the efforts of various Level 3 process owners within the Credit and Underwriting organization to proactively identify areas in need of procedures and other supporting governance documentation such as process maps
  • Facilitate the annual completion of policy gap assessments, understand root cause(s), and assist with developing and documenting action plans for closing any potential exceptions.
  • Assemble and maintain process maps and identify risks and controls by leveraging various business partnerships.
  • Maintain and enhance the Synchrony Financial Credit and Underwriting Policies, Issue Management, Surveillance and Governance Support Central site to ensure the site is optimally set-up
  • Identifying the appropriate procedures and process maps that address Critical to Compliance (CTCs) and Critical to Quality (CTQ) elements assigned to Credit and Underwriting
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor s degree with 8 years experience working in credit card underwriting or processing
  • 5 years experience and expertise working in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • 3 years experience with credit card application and/or account management systems
  • 3 years of project management, quality management and/or people management experience
  • 1 years writing policies and/or procedures in the financial services industry
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule

Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelors degree in business, statistics or other related fields
  • 2 years designing or managing Support Central workflows
  • Attention to detail and follow up skills essential
  • Deep, up-to-date knowledge of regulatory compliance of the financial services sector to drive improvements
  • Excellent communication skills-interpersonal, verbal, and written
  • Working knowledge of Genasys, Edison, Surveyor, FDR, GECOM, Decision Center, SAS, CDCI and Commercial data warehouses preferred
  • Ability to influence others to achieve team goals
  • Strong compliance, audit or control function background, with specific understanding of internal controls
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects, organize workflow, and prioritize work assignments
  • Strong business process mapping and MS Visio skills
  • Imagination and creativity in applying / adapting best practices and learnings to new problems/needs
  • Previous experience managing a team or other demonstrated ability to manage others
  • Ability to work and influence within a global matrix organization
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Excellent work ethic and able to work well with broad and diverse global teams
  • Ability to gather, analyze and summarize data in clear and concise manner and report findings to senior management
