Job Description

Neustar is looking for a skilled individual to work in a highly dynamic environment providing support for development through production level Oracle databases. Additional supporting Oracle technologies include Data Guard, Golden Gate, Materialized Views, Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Automated Storage Management (ASM). Additional skills in Postgres, MySQL, SQL*Server and Mongo database administration are highly desired.The candidate will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of over 700 databases across many business services. The candidate is expected to ensure data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements are met through formulations and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. Has a willingness to work with customers of varying levels of technical expertise in a high- pressure, complex environment. The candidate will have experience with or have a desire to learn open source database technologies such as MySQL, Postgres, GreenPlum and Mongo.Responsibilities:Periodic on- call support responding to incidents and incident bridgesChange Management implementation. Changes are frequently implemented outside business hours and overnight. Provide first- level database support: Resolve problems and answer questions related to the database and platform environment (Linux, AIX, VMware), contact vendor support when necessary; facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiencyMaintain database backup/ recovery environment: Assure that data recovery time objectives are established and met; verify implementation of correct backup strategy; develop recovery procedures; support recovery from loss of data caused by user or system error; respond quickly to refresh data.Database performance monitoring and tuning: Closely monitor performance; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure the database is running at optimum speed and efficiencyInstall and upgrade database and related products: Keep database at current release and maintenance levels; install supporting products; provide current, stable production and development environmentsReorganize database structures as needed: Automate procedures at regular intervals; use tools to reorganize or defragment database table spaces, tables, and indexes; provide efficient database environment to maximize productivity and improve performancePerform application refreshes on request: Refresh data from one environment to another at the request of the application development staff; execute necessary tasks to accomplish this, including export, drop, create, and import pre- scheduled time to minimize impact; provide application development staff optimal development environment with current dataCapacity planning and reporting: Monitor file system space, database allocation, etc.; verify efficient use of disk storage; reclaim unused space; optimize space allocation and avoid out- of- space conditionsWork closely with Systems Programmers and Systems Administrators to ensure that the database system is operating in accordance with required system usage; provide assistance and guidance in setting appropriate system parametersReview overall physical database structures for data integrity, performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerationsCommunicate complex technical information in a concise and articulate mannerParticipate in the evaluation and recommendation of DBA tools and new DBMS technologies Skills and Knowledge:Thorough understanding of the relational database model and solid theoretical knowledge of relational database techniques; skilled in ability to see the big picture and conceptualize and document creative solutionsAbility to design and implement backup and recovery of databases under various failover and switchover events.Excellent oral and written communications skillsAbility to weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs and choose the most cost- effective solutionKnowledge of SQL, including programming and ways to optimize SQL code.Ability to quickly learn, adapt to, implement and migrate current database technologies to new open source environments, specifically Postgres, MySQL and Mongo Required Experience:Bachelor s degree or better in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline3+ years in- depth experience in administration and support of Oracle Enterprise RDBMS1+ years extensive experience in at least 2 of the following technologies: ASM, RAC, GoldenGate, DataGuard3+ years operating knowledge of various UNIX environments, specifically RedHat and CentOS2+ years UNIX shell scripting experienceDemonstrated experience working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise in high- pressure situations and complex environments Preferred Skills:Experience in Agile management methodologiesExperience with ServiceNowExperience with Jira and Confluence Neustar does not accept unsolicited resumes from external firms or agencies.
