Job Description

The Team: The candidate will be part of the Index Management & Production Group (IMPG) within S&P Dow Jones Indices.

The Impact: The Index Production Analyst (or Index Manager) performs a crucial operational function within IMPG and is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and calculation of S&P DJI branded indices managed by the Mumbai team. The Index manager must be able to analyze and implement complex index methodology and solve non-routine problems on an on-going basis and is responsible for all aspects of a group of indices

What s in it for you: A global role, with the opportunity to support the Global Index Management team within IMPG. The Index Manager is responsible for all aspects of an assigned group of indices and should become a subject matter expert in their field. The Index Manager makes recommendations on the treatment of corporate actions in line with our policies and procedures, directly impacting changes to indices and client portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Calculate S&P DJI branded indices on a daily basis, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of real-time and end-of-day index data to clients and end users.
  • Run various quality assurance (QA) processes to help validate index inputs and index values, ensuring overall data integrity.
  • Interpret complex index methodology to ensure that calculation of index levels and selected securities correspond to the stated methodology
  • Ensure corporate actions of company constituents in each assigned index are correctly applied in S&P DJI s proprietary systems, in accordance with the respective index methodology and validate special treatment for index specific items
  • Perform index rebalances by interpreting index methodology, running models and research for adds/drops, implementing changes and sending reconstitution announcements to clients
  • Perform analysis of index returns, weights and constituents as required
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to enquiries from clients, either directly or via other internal functions such as Client Coverage and Index Services
  • Clearly communicate to a variety of both internal and external stakeholders and escalate any issues to Senior Management in a timely manner

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree required. Advanced degree in business, math, economics, or finance considered an advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience working in a financial services role.
  • Direct experience with an index provider and/or financial institution focused on tracking/replication or portfolio management is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential alongwith knowledge of Python (in particular), Microsoft Access and/or VBA.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential, along with strong communication skills
  • Requires excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner.
