Job Description

  • Serve as a primary point responsible for the overall health, performance, and capacity of one or more of our Internet-facing services
  • Gain deep knowledge of our complex applications.
  • Support the roll-out and deployment of new product features and installations to facilitate our rapid iteration and constant growth.
  • Develop tools to improve our ability to rapidly deploy and effectively monitor custom applications in a large-scale k8s environment
  • Improve resiliency and availability of the system by monitoring, alerting, self-healing, destructive testing and game day exercises.
  • Collaborate with the existing engineering team to understand deployment practices and processes and work towards iteratively improving the release pipeline to ensure a highly resilient deployment strategy, ideally with zero downtime
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that platforms are designed with operability in mind.
  • Function well in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment.
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Participate in the technical review of incidents, partnering with R&D teams
  • Measure everything, providing critical operational insight into our applications.
Minimum qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years experience with troubleshooting in Unix/Linux
  • 2+ years experience working with k8s
  • 5+ years in a UNIX-based large-scale web operations role.
  • Experience with web-based Java/J2EE architectures and JVM configuration.
  • Experience in software development in one or more of the following: Java, Go , Python.
  • Experience in operating Kubernetes clusters , service mesh and containerized services.
  • A passion for SRE/DevOps principals and a clear drive to remove toil and run highly resilient/automated systems
  • Experience in a medium to large operational environment
  • Previous experience working with geographically-distributed coworkers.
  • Experience in a role with hands on complex Technical Problem Solving as a daily duty
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (including listening, speaking, and writing) and ability to work well in a diverse, team-focused environment with other SREs, Engineers, Product Managers, etc.
  • Knowledge of most of these: data structures, networking, Linux internals, filesystems, web architecture, and related topics.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Proficiency working with distributed systems and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient large scale distributed systems
  • Puppet or automated deployment experience
  • Understanding and experience in cloud infrastructure and platforms, such as AWS and GCP
  • Experience in implementations, administration and maintaining monitoring systems
